    Hello everyone,

I am considering purchasing a Alienware 18 with a 980m gpu. Do you guys think the graphics amplifier is worth purchasing to put in a desktop GTX 980?

Hello, and welcome to our community.

There is no way to do what you are asking about, as there is no way to connect the "Graphics Accelerator" eGPU to an Alienware 18. It does not have an external PCIe port. If you are interested in using the new eGPU gadget on an Alienware, you will need to buy one of the new BGA models with a low-TDP CPU and GPU permanently attached to the motherboard, so that is a relatively big performance sacrifice. If you are interested in using a desktop GPU and having full performance while being bound a desk, the best option is to build a desktop with a potent socketed CPU. The eGPU connected to the new Alienware BGA laptops does not perform as well a single GPU desktop.
