    Hey guys

Windows Update just ran (Feature Update 1909) and upon restart the GPU vanished from Device Manager...I installed the drivers again (newest ones) and it is back there now but something still seems wrong as Witcher 3 starts on iGPU (it still says SG in BIOS though) and when try 3d Mark I get the following error:

    File: dx_device.cpp Line: 223 Function: __cdecl eva::graphics::dx::dx_device::dx_device(class eva::globals &,struct eva::graphics::dx::dx_device_creation_parameters &) Expression: D3D12CreateDevice( adapter, parameters.minimum_feature_level, IID_PPV_ARGS(m_native.receive())): DirectX call failed [-2005270524]. :

    Anybody else experienced this?

I have tried searching the forum but without luck...

oh...and my headphones stopped working too...as in they're plugged in, but the sound is coming out of the speaker...

I fired in this process to remove the GPU from the upgrade process. Not sure if this protects from blatant M$ups or not...

Thanks, I will definitely try that. Thing is, I was able to install the drivers after the update, but DirectX still would fire up in 3dMark, at least that's how I am reading the error message above.

Either way will try that and attempt updating again.

Try Install latest drivers before you go with main update.

Tried both the preventing device installation piece from Homer and the latest drivers thing from Papusan, thanks guys, but no luck sadly...still the same error message although the sound on headphones worked after the update this time around.

Any other ideas? For now I will restore to a past point to undo the update...my worry is I don't want to be too much behind updating so I don't miss out on critical security updates...unless those can be separately installed...

Could it be that the modded drivers are not initialising DirectX correctly?

    See this if it helps.
Also, NVIDIA has a service running on your computer which manages the display driver. It provides support to your operating system and is basically a middleware between your NVIDIA hardware and your operating system. There are cases where this service is stopped and because of this, the computer fails to detect your NVIDIA hardware. Follow these steps::

    • Press Windows + R, type “services.msc” in the dialogue box and press Enter.
    • Navigate through all the services until you find NVIDIA Display Driver Service. Right-click it and select Properties.
    • Set the Startup type to "automatic", and then press Apply.
    • Once you have made sure the service is up and running, check if the error message is still there or not.

Sadly I only have the below service, rather than the one you mentioned...but thanks for the tip anyway!

Are any of you running Windows 10 update 1909 successfully in your M18XR2s?

With 980m gtx sli no problem,
I just have to create inf files, which didn't happen in 1803.
What I had to do was to block Windows update on the Nvidia driver,
    I kept installing version 388

Right, so you did experience a similar error with DirectX to begin with but blocking windows from updating the Nvidia driver helped?

    Maybe I did it wrong...

Quick update, tried the update again, GPU gone again but this time after installing drivers everything worked fine, weird. Just thought I'd let you know, if anyone was in the same boat, try again, it may work this time! :)
