There's an Alienware 18 being sold nearby me, with these specs:

    Processor: INTEL CORE I7 4800QM 2.7GHZ
    RAM: 16GB
    HDD: 1.5 TB (RAID O) 80GB SSD
    Screen Size: 18.4" WLED FHD
    Video Card: DUAL NVIDIA GTX770M

DELL Advanced + Accidental damage warranty applied as well, all for 2750$(the store owner received it as a replacement for a defective m18x he had for sale, so it is untouched!)

I visited the store today and they actually had a lot of gaming laptops, the m18x included, it had a 3630qm processor and an AMD 7970m for 1700$

There was a Samsung series 7 , Razer blade, and an MSI gt70 there, but I've been dead set on Alienware since my dad told me about them all the way back in 5th grade, I'm 21 now, headed to UTSA and I know who's the best.

I'm not a big number chaser like some of the Masters in this forum, I'll be doing mostly gaming, and this is what i'll be upgrading from: Amazon.com: HP 17.3" Laptop 4GB 320GB | G72-259WM: Computers & Accessories (except mine has a 500gb HDD)

what do you all think? I know I don't post much but I'm always reading the forums, so I hope this post in in order.

(PS. I'll be contributing to that ideastorm thread for better Fan Tables etc.)

Probably would need to know how much extended warranty is left, but if I was to buy used/refurb, I'd try to do it from the Dell outlet since it's used anyways there and they have 30% off coupons all the time. All the time as in probably once a month at least. This machine also "only" has 770m SLI which I believe is = to 1 780m (someone can correct me). If you're getting the 18 inch machines, you might as well go with the fastest gfx.

    Dell Outlet:
    Alienware Laptops | Dell

    There are 8 M18x R2s around 2.1k - 2.4k
    There are 0 18s currently.

Factor in your savings with the coupon and your cost will be a lot lower...Please note you can push a M18x r2 FASTER than the new 18. There is one with 2x 680m and you can upgrade to a xm CPU for faster speed or just be happy with the 3740qm CPU.

I suppose if I (one of the more vocal supporters of the 18) were to buy used, I'd probably opt for the M18x r2 as well since we're looking at prices of 1600 now.

I certainly wouldn't go for the specced machine above with dual 770ms.

That r2 with a 7970m would be tempting to me.

That deal sucks, I got my M18 for about 2800 and it had the i7-4900 , 32 GB ram, dual 780SLI (but no hard drives) I added to 840 EVOs for an another 300.00 bringing my system total to 3200.00
Mine was a refurbished laptop has 9 months warranty.

I'd only be worried with the ATI/AMD cards and their higher failure rates (my non-scientific impressions from reading here)...

but yeah, OP, the machine you posted is bad and instead of having the store owner profit, maybe save money yourself and apply all the savings to SSDs, more games, etc...and pick up from outlet with coupon IMO.

Thank's everyone for the input, i'm currently at work and cant leave a huge response yet, but after testing the speakers, keyboard etc, I would -prefer- going for the 18 over the m18x, though if the deal is good enough I guess I would be ok with going with the m18x, ( my dad is the one footing the bill, he say's price is not an issue but I really don't want to kill his wallet, which is why I homed in on that 18 nearby me.)

I am aware of the issue with fan tables.

Alienware 18 is a better deal, same as above... if you were to purchase an used machine. I would recommend to purchase it from the DELL outlet.
