Hello all, been a while since I posted up here.

Finally decided to break the bank and bought a Aw18. Excited about it, but seems like I should of moved on the 18xR2 but I wasn't looking into buying at the time.

Either way. Coming from a M17x should be a drastic upgrade. Hopefully Aw/Dell decides to unlock the BIOS.

Anyone figure out any tips/tricks to make these things run top notch? anyone find a cooler large enough for this beast? (i'm sure a little digging on the forums Ill find a suitable answer)

Also with the 18, are we back to having to reboot to switch between integrated/dedicated GPU's? (hated this about my 17x)

Cant wait to get this beast in service. Honestly I'm a little worried about screen/sound quality, I will be comparing it to the M14xR2 I have. I feel that this little beast is a pretty good example of screen/sound quality for such a small package.

either way I hope I'm happy with it.

Hi again, I'm sure Ill be around on the forums more often now.

I use a cooler master sf-19 and it fits just fine. Honestly I usually end up propping the back up with my old nintendo ds and let the internal fans do there thing. Never have heat issues. The cooler is more of an annoyance to me and really doesn't make a difference in temps from my experience.

I also have used to coke bottle caps under each corner aligned with the rubber feet to prop up the back, works as well as my nintendo ds. :)

U3 works great with aw18, I have fans lined up, right on top of the intake fans and it runs good.

To me sound is better than aw18, in bf3/bf4, bullets have more realistic sound, specially shot guns, you hear proper clunk of the metal, whereas on m17xr4, I got this big boom and that's it.

Screen is very good, just a bit yellowish for my taste, but not too bad.

^^^all true... coke bottle caps are free and work great. Coolers cost money are do very little to improve cooling.

I have a U3 and like it a lot. As a cooler, it is equally effective turned upside down with no fan assistance and just a huge air space to allow free breathing. The surface of the cooler blocks air too much (about 50% I would guess) and there is not enough increase in CFM or velocity from the stock fans to have a significant effect on load temps.

Thanks for the info. Wasn't sure if there was a latest/greatest cooler out there. I guess the KISS method comes into play here.

Having the extra airspace is usually the biggest gain, also achievable with bottle caps under the feet :p

If it has SLI, you won't have that.
