One thing that can be affecting the drivers installation and performing could be any anti virus running when you installed the driver. I remember the amd used to said something about that on the installation instruction for 6990M and 6979M last year.

    Hey guys,
I'm still working on the 12.7 betas, but I've noticed a (potential) problem. All my games and everything are still working 100%, but my curiosity got the better of me so I wanted to see my temperatures during a long gaming session.

Long story short I installed MSI afterburner, using some suggestions from Mr. Fox's thread, though I skipped all the CPU info stuff. I had many problems with sensors and such on the second card with ULPS enabled, so I turned that off and everything is working almost perfectly.

My problem is before I disabled ULPS I had a fan sensor on the second card show up, but it always read 0. Now, with it disabled the sensor doesn't appear in the MSI list nor in any other programs I've downloaded that should show fan speeds. I can't see the fan speeds for either card and they're the thing I'm most curious about.

Anyone know anything about this? I'd appreciate any knowledge anyone has to offer.

P.S. my temperatures do seem to stabilize at around 76-78C on both cards (the second slightly cooler), so I don't think there's a problem, I just want to see those fan speeds. Thanks!

ok. It's just I've heard a lot of talk about fan troubles on the 6900 series and I wanted to be able to check up on them myself. But it there's no way there's no way.

    Hello guys :)
New to the forum, just signed up cuz I'm having problems with my 7970m.

But first things first, need to tell someone why I'm so sad/pissed off.

I'm a user from Brazil that saved A LOT of money to buy a gaming platform, since I was stucked with a crappy dell desktop that I got it when I went ouside my state to study.

After 5 months saving I bought my self a barebone built in a CLEVO structure, this is the one: Avell Notebooks - Produtos - Avell FullRange G1730 D5HJ
    But with a 7970m

It's the regular CLEVO/SAGER notebook, but because I'm Brazilian, the taxes raise the value of any imported eletronic, so I bought this baby for, doing the math on my currency to dollar, about R$2500.

I realize that this is a hell lot more than the EU/US users pay in their notebooks, but it was still the best choice, compared to other notebooks.

Waited about 4 months after payment to get my hands on the NB, delays on the radeon/clevo lunching, plus the time that takes to things get here in Brasil, get taxed and stuff.

4 long months after paying for him, I finally got him yesterday and it was SAD.

First of all, the screen came with a dead pixel, gonna have to wait another day to repair it.

Ok, dead pixel, not a big deal, but it was a bad start.

So I went to the games, instaled Heroes of Newearth, and tried to play using the enduro, got disapointed, the max graphics were a little low on FPS, something I did not expected in a game like HoN, that doesn't need such a high performance of the VGA.

Tried to disable enduro, could not get it done.
Instaled all drivers, 12,7/cap - 12,6, and could not do it.

After giving up to disable enduro, started DL on BF3 and went to sleep.

Today I woke up to go to work and turned on the NB, just to check if BF3 finished DL and it was going to work, and, for my surprise, the 7970m just stoped working and got me the CODE 43 error.

Unistalled all drivers, deleted the registers in regedit, and still not working, going to format my win7 today and see if I can get him to recognize the 7970m again.

I'm sorry for the huge post, but not many ppl in Brazil can afford a machine like that, making it almost impossible for me to find ppl from my country to discuss/help me with this subject.

I just needed to tell my story, cuz I'ts really sad to pay A LOT more then other users for a nice NB and have those kind of problems :(

Also, there's no good RMA policy here, so I'm pretty much gonna have to wait for a solution from AMD :/

Thx for the atention, and sorry for the clumsy english :p
PS: posted in the Alienware forum cuz it was the 1st one that google showed up to me about the CODE 43 error.

The new driver is showing up at the US site as well - link
I will give these a shot when I get home, but the only listed fix is for PowerExpress switching issues...............

EDIT: At least these appear to be based on the 12.6 driver.

I figured it out. There goes 5 hours of my life I will never get back.

You have to uninstall the display driver 7970m under the device manager, reboot, uninstall everything amd (through add and remove programs, click change on the AMD installer), then reboot.

Then I had to reinstall the drivers that came with my laptop (a Sager), and then I installed the 12.6 display driver over top, but none of the rest of the stuff in the 12.6 package.

    Hope this helps!

They are working on it. Mark_O and his team are burning lots of calories trying to get things with 7970M CF in proper working order. They are communicating with AMD about what needs to be done on their end, too.

Try the one I linked yesterday in post # 261. It's working better than the previous versions. Not sure it will work as well for your 6970M CF setup, but there is no harm in trying it.

Yes Mr. For, I understand. My only statement was that the new driver released on the 13/7/2012 it has been removed. I think they have realised that it is incomplete and they had to remove it.

I am sure that the next update from them will have the vbios and the driver with the cap.

Sorry, juliant. I misunderstood what you meant. I thought you were commenting on the fact that Dell did not have a newer driver update than the previous one.

You're correct about them pulling it. They recognized that the 12.7b is better option for customers at this time. AMD never sent Dell a better reference driver to use and then AMD released the 12.7b so it was smart for them to remove it from the download page.

I am a bit of a baby at this, I rep. you few days back (it was related to a guy giving me lecture that I should not post my problems here and that I should go to AMD and write to them directly, maybe you remember the discussion) and I do not know if I did it right (or even if it is possible to rep you :D)?! Thank you (please delete this if not required)

Update: I noticed there is a small icon down where it shows your status. I must click on that for rep :D Sorry about the confusion

Launch CCC, disable CrossFire, wait for it to finish the process, then re-enable CrossFire. When my secondary GPU sensor stops working, this makes it start working again. It will often stick for several days before I have to do that again.

I am using the 12.7 CAP1. It seems to help most games except for Skyrim.

And, rightfully so. It's a roll of the dice. Unless your budget will not allow it, I would recommend skipping this GPU and purchasing GTX 680M SLI. The performance between the two is very similar, but the NVIDIA driver support alone is worth the extra money. In fact, GTX 675M SLI is probably a better purchase decision even though 7990M CrossFire is more powerful. You can rationalize getting better value for your dollar and hope that AMD driver support will make 7970M CrossFire an all around good buy eventually, but if hindsight were 20/20 I would not have anything to do with this GPU abortion. But... it is what it is. Lemonade, anyone?

How much is the price premium for the dual 680m in the USA? Can you return the 7970/afford the 680? I hope Dell is providing refunds and not trying to argue that this product is working fine.
