Finally Official 7970M Driver released - AMD Catalyst 12.6 WHQL and 12.7 Beta

Alright guys from last about a month im daily takin my little errand to search for officially 7970m support driver, Well today ive found somethin precious for my M18x R2, literally for 7970M...... Yeah yeah im talkin about Official 7970M driver, I have just downloaded AMD catalyst Mobility tool, and yes this tiny red tool detected my 7970m Gpus, hence starts downloadin AMD mobility 12.6 drivers. Im goin to install it now and let you know guys how it goes...

OC Core 920 Mhz, Mem 1400Mhz

I have played Crysis 2 (DX11 and Ultra Text.) to test driver performance, well it has been improved from 12.5 beta, as now gettin around 65 to 70 Fps (@ 1980 X 1200p as im usin external monitor U2410)while both Gups usage stays around 70 to 75%, temp 60C to 63C. Previously i was gettin around 40fps @1980X 1080p m18x stock screen while that time both Gup usage around 60%(Vsync ON) with Vsync off about 80Fps @ 99% both gups usage. So i think Crysis 2 performance has been improved about 15% to 25% compare to 12.5 beta driver. Also i was gettin darker image issue like when firin weapon continuously as display get darker with 12.5 beta, But with 12.6 Whql driver NO more image errors, Display stays and looks so so bright in all case.

lol so far ive blue screened with these drivers 4 times.. going back to 12.5 beta.. these as with the rest seem to not hold 3D timings and speeds..

 

I have just installed 12.6 mobility WHQL driver, was so quick without any error so far everythin is alright.

Well there is tiny improvement over previous beta drivers, I have not yet tried any games with official driver. Im goin to play Crysis 2 now n will update you guys with results.

stock.. 850/1200 stock voltage.. cpu is factory level 3
I made it threw a run of 3Dmark11 but 2006-2003 would run (starts and stops and bsods) minecraft starts and comp freezes.. did try any thing after that because upon restart i couldnt get past 30-60 seconds on my desktop before bsod..

 

damm.... go back to waiting for good drivers

no black window at start up but when i installed it hung on a black screen then restarted.. i started the whole prosses over again with a fresh install..

but hey try them out and see for your selfs! maybe they work for you.. all i know is that they dont work for me and on my 3D mark 11 run with both cards on..my fps was 52-55 but then it would hop really fast between 23-52 fps the score tho after it completed was 9800.. so i dont know what was going on there..

 

Hey DumbDumb, you did fresh install? are you usin AMD Overdrive? I think there is somethin conflict with your previous driver files. Try to use system cleanin utilities in safe mode.

 

oh I did I did a completely fresh install of them.. and amd overdrive is not listed for me.. can you screen that if its working for you?

Hmm so far ivent encounter for pass, I think there is still update in process. Even tho we all know better AMD when it comes to update their web, as they have still not updated UK page with mobility 7970M Yes its Official Whql driver, you can view it from AMD> support folder, please look for AMD folder in C driver after extractin files. yes they have still not create support section.

 

lol actually i meant to say AMD overdrive cause bsod error, but you have not install then also gettin it so strange. Huh screen what? do you mean CCC software window?

 

Peter, have you tried 12.7 beta (26 June) i'm currently on them.

Now installing 12.6 WHQL

 

Yes i did, but with it i wasnt even able to start BF 3, as at start up game just get freezes and went back to 12.5 beta, was stable so far. But now im usin 12.6 (28 June official) which is even better then 12.5 beta, as it does improved Crysis 2 performance, additionally solved image error issue.

 

This "official" driver BSODs me within 30 seconds of loading into windows. Back to 12.5 (12.7 official beta seemed to work OK for a while, but I did get a random BSOD)

As previously said, it usually cause cosz of corrupted driver files or conflict with older version, I had face to much error with 12.6 Beta about 3 weeks ago , so ive did went back to 12.5 beta as it worked well so far. Omg its already goin to 5am now and im still wide awake, better off to bed now still day left for weekends I will try tomorrow BF3 and update results.

 

I am on 12.6 WHQL and its stable just did a fast 3dmark11 run and seems its ok.

EDIT. Peter, don't you get kdbsync.exe error at start with amd transcoding software? I am uninstalling all except drivers, ccc, hdmi audio

 

Ok my laptop is now a brick apparently.

The following just happened:

1. Ran ATIMAN v7.0.2 and completely wiped my system of ATI drivers.
2. Rebooted
3. Began installation of 12.6 WHQL drivers
4. Halfway through my screen went blank as usual, but this time it stayed that way for 15 minutes.
5. Forced a shutdown (didn't know what else to do), now my computer turns on... ramps up... and dies down. Nothing happens.

edit: nevermind it turned on!

 

I always do a clean install of the drivers - uninstall in windows, clean with DriverSweeper in safe mode. Install the driver, reboot, install CAPs.

I didn't even get to install the CAPs before 12.6 WHQL caused a BSOD. So I had to do a safe mode driversweeper, then used 12.5 to uninstall the rest of the 12.6 installs. Rebooted, installed 12.5, rebooted, installed the CAP. Back to being 100% stable.

 

All these updated drivers beyond 12.5 seem to have the delayed AMD color profile, like if you crank up saturation etc it will will take sometime to kick in after Windows boots.

On 12.6 clean install the color profile will not kick in till i open the Catalyst control center as where the others were delayed or 12.5 where it was there right at boot.

Ok these 12.6 WHQL drivers are incredible in BF3.

Running battlefield 3 on Ultra results in:

Average of 75 FPS on Grand Bazaar (Smaller map)
GPU1 Usage: 98% constant
GPU2 Usage. 98% constant
Load temperature: 78 Degrees
No artifacts, screen tearing, etc.

Knock on wood, definitely excited.

Im running single 7970m and had bad performance on deus ex on 1080p in some areas, mostly smokey areas and totaly random places. With these drivers its now constant 60+ fps. Finaly i can have the true power of this card .

I tried Max Payne 3 again and it ran almost flawlessly before, and still does. I ran it for about 5mins and quit the game. I den checked my temp logs and my GPU temps have been up at 77C. This never happened before on previous drivers. Maybe these official drivers uses more of the GPU capacity thus offering more power. Ill have to try and stresstest to see how high the temps will go in long gaming sessions. Brb in a few hours of Entropia Universe gaming (CryTek engine)

EDIT: Nope, didnt get past 77C after an hour of EU gaming.

 

Can't wait until dell fixes my laptop!!! Wish I can try these drivers.

 

Ok I can't seem to complete a 3DMark11 run with these drivers, but battlefield 3 is running fine. Going to try and play for an hour.

Did you do a clean install or installed on top of your old driver? Currently downloading it now, hopefully more stability and performance on crossfire.

 

I did a clean install, using ATIman 7.0.2

 

OK, for anyone having trouble with these Mobility drivers, try the DESKTOP 12.7 beta. The desktop 12.7 beta actually has the correct device ID and identifies the 7970 M by name in the INF file. Go figure. I installed this earlier this evening without any mods and it is working pretty decent for me. AMD Catalyst Desktop GPU Display Driver for Windows Vista/Windows 7 64-bit Here is a screen shot of the Desktop 12.7 beta installed.

I did not have any trouble getting the Mobility driver to download using the link from Peter to the Catalyst Mobility Utility. I just discovered this thread so I am going to test it to see how it compares to the 12.7 beta desktop driver.

Edit: Peter, thanks for the tip. This installed fine for me, too. Just as the new 12.7 beta desktop driver did. I am going to start testing it now. I was not prompted to reboot after installing, but rebooted anyway and so far have had no BSOD or black screen. Proof will be in gaming and benchmarks.

I am stable but only running a single 7970.

I just wish the color profile would load at boot like previous drivers .

Performance and stability for my single card has been the same on every single driver I have tested and I have tested them all.

 

Yes! this is the first time I have successfully completed a 3Dmark11 bench with crossfire enabled. Seems pretty stable!

Yes i agree, same thing happen with my system, after first restart CCC colour profile wasnt start after windows boot up, But when ive start CCC my display got more colourful, but now with every restart CCC colour profile load up by it self.

so mr fox whats the verdict.. any thing working better than 12.5?

 

12.7 (from 26 june) shows 180fps in dirt 3 and seems stable so far.

 

gave them a try an ran 3dmark11 got p10143: Graphics Score: 11181, Physics Score: 8488, Combined Score: 7227
so far so good but thats the only thing I tried yet ...

edit: World of tank seems pretty unchanged with ~30% usage per gpu and still can't enable 4x SSAA on the external screen (only 2X but 4x SSAA works fine on the 18.4" screen) the game is still playable with good fps but it would be nice to be able to crank up the AA some more. WoT only gain very few fps from crossfire vs a single card (maybe ~10 fps more)

League of legends still has the game interface flickering with crossfire enabled

Diablo 3 seems fine also (been having some rare hard lock up with 12.7)

 

These (12.6) aren't supported for the 7970M.

Yups , I tried installing 12.6 drivers and got an AMD incompatible hardware error message.

I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to this sort of thing so I could be doing something wrong?

 

can some on say if xfire is working with 12.7?

ok with the 12.6 peter and the 12.7 Mr. Fox listed I get a immediate bsod when i load up mine craft.. code 0x00000A with some others..
can some one confirm for me that in mine craft with these driver you bsod please.. also what games are confirmed to work with xfire enabled?

this is on a clean install of 12.7 which Mr.Fox listed.. please confirm for your selfs..

ok so far this is what ive found.. with xfire enabled

minscraft bsods with in 3 seconds of loading the game.. error code 0x00000A
and on mark 03 and 6 ive started to get this..(Windows 7 blue screen STOP: 0x00000119 (which means) This Stop Error has to do with the video card. Either the drivers are wrong or the card is failing. If you can get into Windows, uninstall the video drivers and install the correct ones. See below for where to get them. If you can't get into Windows Regular Mode, see if you can get into Safe Mode and uninstall the drivers from there. More details about your computer, your hardware, the machine's recent history, and whether you can get into Windows will help get you more focused troubleshooting. If uninstalling/reinstall drivers doesn't help then the video card may have failed and will need to be replaced.)

3Dmark 03= freezes at the 22 second mark..no bsod computer just locks

3Dmark 06 =freezes at the 7 second mark.. no bsod computer just locks

3Dmark vantage = completes at stock clocks it scored a total score of 29868 /gpu score=33080 /cpu score=23130

now im going to go back and do every thing with a single card..

xfire disabled cpu stock and gpu stock.

I just got my 660m removed, I removed all drivers and did a registry sweep of to remove any an all remaining traces and rebooted.

When I run that tool for mobility series it says it cannot find any compatible hardware nor the os. The next screen it does list the correct OS but no compatible drivers for my hardware to download.

It sounds like adding the desktop drivers won't work (I suspect the 7970m drivers it is installing are the 7970 desktop drivers instead)

So I need help in how I trick the AMD software to download the correct drivers. I have an Alienware M17x R4. Is there a driver I need to install first to help the hardware get id, then uninstall/remove/clean then run the tool to find updated drivers? Also those drivers do they provide all the same features and programs as the Dell default drivers on their website?

i can see that your havin many problems regardin to driver, from my point of view i can only conclude that there are some unnecessary or corrupted files ,registry causin these problem. I would like to advice you please do fresh windows install as it will take only 1 hour (includin all app. install), and it will save your many precious hours days

 

yea as thats not going to happen.. I haven't tried gaming with these yet.. but i play a lot of mine craft and on 12.5 i cant utilize crossfire but i can run the benchmarks.. and to reinstall the complete os and lose every thing over what is obviously a bad driver is just..nonsense..

let people test em.. im sure im not the only one thats having problems..

lets see you complete a documented run of mark03 or mark 06 on 12.7
