    Hi Fellas,

I'm getting a Black screen after pressing FN + F7 to switch over to integrated graphics. I can't get far enough to install the HD 4000 drivers.
Has anyone had this problem ?

    Thanks in advance

Have you tried safe mode? Or do you get a blackscreen from the beginning? (No BIOS logo)

Safe mode was ok. The black screen was only after the Windows loading screen.

Did you try installing the drivers in safe mode? There really a few different reasons why you are getting the black screen after the windows screen, but have you tried an external monitor?

Dont you install the drivers before you do the switch for the first time?

I am not sure what you are stating. If you are running discrete graphics you cannot install the Intel graphics drivers, and vice versa. You have to switch between integrated and discrete graphics to install the respective drivers. On the M18xR1/R2 and Alienware 18 the default graphics system is discrete graphics. I have always had to switch to Intel graphics on purpose to install the Intel drivers. It appears that TBoneSan has an ES CPU that has failed and that is causing multiple issues that are growing progressively worse. The black screen when booting Intel integrated graphics is only one symptom among others. We will know in a few days if the replacement CPU he has ordered resolves the issues.

    UltraGSM and TBoneSan like this.

    Hallo
I have the same issue whit my Alienware m18x r2 , when pressing fn + f7 to boot whit integrated graphic, i get black screen from the beginning - no bios logo, i have to disconnect the bios battery to recover. I have a lot of bsod and freezes . Can this be a defective cpu ?
    Best regards

Are you overclocking? If so.. dial it down abit and see if that fixes it.

Yes. I had a QS CPU that may have been the problem.

    Hallo
I removed my discrete graphic , and now all that happens is black screen , no boot , in 5 sec, it shuts down, so i guess it is the cpu or motherboard,
    any ideas ?
    Best regards

Does your discreet graphics card work though? I was able to still use my discreet graphics.

    Try resetting your CMOS

My discreet graphics works , but i have a lot of bsod and freezes , it is almost stable when running on battery , and very unstable with power supply plugged in,
I have reset the cmos , but no boot.

Similar thing happened to me. I suspect my CPU degraded. Can you try and underclock your CPU and see if that stops the BSOD..

I cant see any option to under-clock the CPU ?

Actually...first things first.. what CPU do you have?

Since you've reset your CMOS the BIOS multipliers should be stock. Your Voltage (flex) is likely 25. Go ahead and up this to 35 and leave the multipliers at stock.. see if this gets you into Windows without a BSOD.

Try running more Flex as mentioned above and leave the multipliers at stock. See if that avoids you a BSOD

Try ed that , but still BSOD , tried another CPU (3820QM) and still the same, so i guess that leaves the motherboard as only suspect , or ?
is the power regulator located on the motherboard ? it runs quit well on battery , a bit unstable with power supply connected and battery not fully charged , and very unstable when fully charged and with power supply plugged in,
Sometimes it wont boot whit power supply connected , sometimes not without it.

You've definitely got some problems going on there. Sounds like hardware to me also. Might be the mobo. Do you have a spare AC adapter that you can test with to rule out some kind of electrical short in the power brick itself?
