EDIT 2: The Dolby program in the audio driver download is NOT Dolby Home Theater V4, it's Dolby Advanced or something and messing with the settings does absolutely nothing to my sound. How do I get the Home Theater V4 icon back and make custom settings? The only place I see it is here and I can't do anything except choose from 3 settings...

    Here is what I noticed:

the latest Realtek Audio Driver posted by DELL has a missing folder called PCEE4

    That folder contains 3 files:

    DolbyAdvancedAudio.msi
    DolbyHomeTheater.msi
    DolbySelectorTaskPatch.exe

So previously what I used to do, is install that latest driver, then after the restart, I would manually double click on the DolbyAdancedAudio.msi to install it! While the Dolby Digital app did appear in the taskbar, I tested some audio and with Dolby on or off it made 0 difference to the sound effects. Furthermore, the equalizer wasn't moving up/down depending on the audio frequencies like it should.

So what I did was, I copied that PCEE4 from the previous driver and placed it in the main folder named RealtekHDAudio

Then I uninstalled the audio driver and restarted.

Now, I installed the driver with that copied folder in it and guess what? this time the Dolby Digital did install and it DOES make a difference. If you don't install it that way, even though the app would be there, there would be no integration / effect on your Audio

If you want my modified driver which the PCEE4, this is the download link:

Realtek ALC3661 Audio Codec Driver 6.0.1.7260 Otherwise if you don't trust meh, then you can simply get that PCEE4 folder from the previous folder and paste it in the RealtekHDAudio then install the driver. That way you would have the latest Realtek Driver WITH Dolby properly working

PS: Run a techno track with Dolby on, then while it's on, turn DOLBY OFF! and see the bass really start kicking! The Dolby does enhance the audio fidely but it kills the bass! so it depends on what you want, better Audio quality or crappy audio quality with proper bass!

I have no trust that DELL will ever fix their buggy drivers

Thanks a bunch. I used your download and went into the PCEE4 folder and installed the Home Theater and this time it's the right one and it works perfectly. I don't mind the bass loss because the audio quality is sooo much better with it on.

awesome man! as long as it works and you see the equalizer moving up/down with the audio then it's fine otherwise you would need to install the entire driver again

The driver installed but the software didn't. When I try to install DolbyAdvancedAudio.msi and DolbyHomeTheater.msi I get "PCEE needs to be installed". There must be a way to force install :(

Did you install using my modified driver?

    Realtek ALC3661 Audio Codec Driver 6.0.1.7260 (A01)

it has the missing PCEE4 folder and by simply installing that driver with that folder in, the Dolby Digital will be installed and integrated properly with your sound card

    Please do this

Uninstall your Realtek driver then restart

Unintall any dolby app then restart

Run the DELLMUP.exe in the root of the extracted folder's file then choose Run As Administrator

    Restart when prompted

now check if the Dolby App is in your taskbar and actually integrated with the Sound Card

    Thanks for replying.

I did this and the driver is installed but the dolby app does not install and is not in the taskbar.

Update guys, I was helping smsmasters over TeamViewer and it appears that he doesn't have an Alienware but a Microsoft Surface 2 so I explained to him that the Dolby Digital app is probably licensed to Alienware systems and thus if you installed this driver on your Surface 2 it will never work.

We tried every driver out there, ASUS Realtek Drivers, the regular Realtek Drivers from their site, and they all don't have Dolby, so please disregard his post this driver DOES work it's just he doesn't have an Alienware to start off with ;)

Hi Ferris23, I have Alienware 14.. I tried everything you mentioned, still cant get Dolby Digital v4!
First I downloaded your modified driver. Then i uninstalled my driver and restarted my alienware. After that i installed the modified driver. Dolby didn't installed itself.. So i went in PCEE4, and installed the file. It is not working. I tried installing dolby digital plus, it worked! I just want v4 not digital plus. Can you please help me out?

    Hey bro,

Firstly, did you ever have the Dolby Digital app installed on your laptop when it first shipped from the factory? The reason I ask is because not all Realtek sound chipsets are the same, your chipset may not even be compatible with it.

If it did have it initially, then I can look into it.

It looks like there is an issue with Windows 8.1. Dolby Home Theater v4 is not installing during drivers installation. There is crappy Dolby Digital Plus instead. When I manually install DHT from PCEE4 folder icon will appear but after opening app it looks like it doesn't make any difference to the sound. EQ is not picking up the music, sliders are working but they dont do anything. In windows 7 it doesn't matter if you put PCEE4 folder inside drivers directory or install it later - it works properly. Do anyone with Windows 8.1 and working DHT v4 could advise something ?

My experience is the opposite. the downloaded drivers from DELL work out of the box on Windows 8/8.1 and install Dolby but on Windows 7, if you don't manually copy the PCEE4 folder, then it doesn't get installed. As you said, installing it manually later on doesn't help because it won't integrate well into the system and thus make no difference to the sound.

Ferris23 when i copy PCEE4 folder to the drivers directory DHTv4 is not installed at all.

I have downloaded realtek audio drivers but for windows 8. I have installed it on my windows 8.1. Everything works properly, including DHT v4. I have read some comments that realtek audio driver dedicated for windows 8.1 doesnt support DHT v4, there is dolby digital plus instead.

Additionally after installing realtek audio windows 8 driver new position appeared in device manager and in Alienware Audio control panel - Realtek Digital input.

It looks like dell realtek audio drivers for windows 8.1 are totally messed up ;(

In my experience it's different. Dolby works out of the box on Windows 8.1 whereas for Windows 7, I MUST copy the PCEE4 folders from a previous driver version for Dollby to get installed automatically and activated during setup. Crappy Dell driver team

Ensure you are installing the FULL version of the Driver as the one on the site if you don't click VIEW DETAILS is the upgrade version:

    Audio_Realtek_W74W814_A01_Setup-DW2CT_ZPE.exe

Uninstall the current driver then reboot, then install the new one and reboot then see if you get it

PS: Ensure that you don't have any Dolby installed in the programs and features after you reboot

Thanks for help Ferris23 but i have tried everything. In windows 7 DHT v4 is installed normally, even if i install it later manually after drivers installation. I have even downloaded latest realtek audio drivers from station-drivers which have DHT v4 included and everything is ok in windows 7. In windows 8.1 it just dont work :D Your Windows 8.1 was dell oem or other version ?

Yeah I reported this to DELL 4 months ago and they didn't do anything about it. People who don't visit forums often will lose DOLBY and have no clue nor even DELL has a clue why it's gone. They use muppets to compile their drivers

I had a wierd issue and experience when I got my machine on Win7 (shipped with Win8) , that Alienware Audio gets stopped working always...

    Tried so many ways -
Optimus / PEG mode install & Order of installs
Realtek site / dell , different versions (updated from realtek also) too..
Nvidia HD audio yes / no during geforce installs
    Dolby yes / no
    Backup restore...what not !!

And finally I was able to fix that plague by -
Installing the Dell Driver first (Dell version numbering is wierd, says "3.66 for dell" ) . Then I extracted that .exe from Realtek (7zip ftw) (updated version 2.77 2014 release) and INF update method from Device manager.
    BAM no more issues :D

Just updated to 2.78 2015 May release....
