Is the chasis the same for r1 and r2? I ask because I was to get the red chasis. But it is cheaper for the r1 and eBay Listers have them listed as the chasis for the r1 and r2. I do t think they are the same but I thought I'd ask.

AFAIK yes but better ask @Mr. Fox

    I've pinged him.

You can always do custom paint job, someone on the forum did yellow chassis.

Mr. Fox swapped his R1 chassis with R2 mobo.

They are almost the same, but not exact. If you have an R2 and use an R1 chassis you will not have any place to mount the MSATA. Using an R2 chassis with an R1 is fine since it has no MSATA.

The only other difference is the plastic sight shields around the ports on the side with the ODD have little tabs that stick out on inside surface on the R1 chassis. If you use an R1 chassis with an R2 motherboard you will need to chop those off with a razor blade for the motherboard to fit. The fit is too tight with those tabs sticking out. The inside surface on that plastic shield is smooth on the R2. The plastic is very soft and it takes almost no effort to chop them off with a razor blade.

Other than the MSATA and those tabs that need to be chopped off, they are totally interchangeable parts.

aside from msata , if you have an R2 laptop , R2 mobo won't fit perfectly. The chassis on the R1 is slightly shorter on the wide.

That's why I mentioned that chopping off the little plastic tabs is necessary. Once those are knocked off it fits really well. Leaving them on makes it very difficult to fit the motherboard and daughterboard connection together because they don't line up perfectly with the tabs pushing the daughterboard over.
