I've been experiencing issues with the battery not charging, and the system switching to battery when AC is plugged in, plus battery overheating, so I've unplugged the battery, and just run it on AC now.

During a system tear down / clean & re-paste I spotted a burnt chip on the main board under the GPU, picture attached - does anyone have any thought's views on what this chip is... and could it be related to my battery issues ?

Other than the battery.. the system is running fine.

I think that's part of the DCIN power delivery.

My A18 wont run on battery alone. It charges the battery fine but as soon as the A/C is unplugged it shuts down in seconds. Make a high pitch squeal as it shutting off too. I have never taken mine apart so I dont know it theres any burnt chips. A good wiring diagram would be awesome if someone has one.

All sorted now thanks - Engineer came out and replaced the board, battery is charging without issues now.

Did have some issues around the warranty though, mainly due to the fact that I send the image to Dell - who's immediate response was "You've invalidated your warranty, by opening up the system, and stripping it down to that level" - but after a few emails and telephone calls they came good!

I'm not aware of any policy Dell has that restricts you from stripping down the PC. In fact, they have a manual that shows users exactly how to strip it down?

They don't .... the biggest problem is the techs are all on different pages when it comes to that. The only time it "invalidate" your warranty is if you break something while doing so..which brings up other issues like how do they even know you broke it unless you tell them  :p.

One of the nicest things about Alienware is you are absolutely aloud to add your own parts and repaste stuff without affecting your warranty. plenty of other brands do void your warranty if you crack the case.

    Be carful with that
By mine all four mosfets went on fire think i had the same issue
What you think, could it be because of to much power drain?
