    Hi,

    I have been trying to get answers by reading past threads, but since some threads have started several years ago, I have been unable to find a clear answer. Apologies if this has already been asked and answered.

    I have an Alienware 18 ("M18XR3 Viking"), type P19E001.

    It is equipped with a 4930XM processor and dual 780M so I am not quite ready to trash it yet. Ideally I'd like to upgrade it instead and keep it running a bit longer. It has had it's MB replaced with a new one a couple of months ago due to a no-POST issue, so the board is new. I have the original 330W PSU.

    Needless to say it has been upgraded with SSDs and more RAM, but I assume other questions can be answered by looking up the specs at DELL.

    What are the best options for upgrading this machine? It seems clear that "GTX 1080 for Laptop" is out of the question due to violations of the standard. Are there other options besides the GTX980M? Has anyone looked at the 1080 MaxQ? What about other upgrades?

    Lol "has anyone looked at the 1080 max-q" the max-q is closer to 1070 than 1080 anyways, and is soldered to the motherboard. I believe the 1070 is possible, but you need the Eurocomm LVDS version if you have the 60hz screen, and it is apparently prone to crashes. The down-low is that if you have a 60HZ screen, 980M SLI is probably the most viable option, and if 120hz, maybe the 1070, but probably the 980m's.

    Would not recommend getting the Eurocom 1070, MSI 1070 from Eurocom...sure, but not the smaller no-mod version. They're having lots of issues right now and I've had a second one die on me.

    As well, the Eurocomm version I've heard is pretty poorly made, and has a lower TDP which leads to less performance on Pascal
