    Hi guys,

This is weird, but figured id ask around because google wasn't any help at all. I Used to use my xbox 360 controllers with my laptop to play certain games. For the 360 to work you have to purchase a wireless transmitter that plugs into a open USB port and then you synch your controller to it. YOu could not plug in the usb charging cord to use the controller with your machine.

When xbox one came out I was able to plug the controller (using the wire that came with it) directly into the USB port and it worked after installing miscrosoft's xbox one driver. Never had a issue with it.

Now the second I plug in the xbox one controller into a USB port on my 18, I immediately get a BSOD. I'm not really sure whats going on and i have been researching online and can't find anything on it. I have installed the driver for the xbox one controller directly from microsoft. My xbox 360 controller still works fine. I just plug the wireless receiver into a open USB port and turn on the controller and it works.

If i unplug that receiver and plug in the xbox one controller into that same USB port, I get a BSOD within 2 seconds.

    Anyone have any ideas?

And yes I know , I should be using mouse and keyboard and not a controller, but i prefer the controller for 1st person shooters.

You should use whatever you like using best. I absolutely hate gamepad controllers for almost everything except arcade type fighting games (i.e. Mortal Kombat) and flying/driving games. But, that doesn't matter one iota... Gaming is supposed to be about having fun, so all that matters is you using whatever you personally like to use.

Weird problem you've got there. What is the bugcheck (STOP error) code and/or message? If you're not sure, download and install WhoCrashed and see if it gives you any clues. It might not be the fault of the controller itself. It could be a conflict the XBOX One controller driver is having with a driver or system resource for something else, like a WiFi or LAN. It could also be something like the power output available from the USB ports being inadequate and a surge when you connect the controller is causing Windows to crash. The USB ports on the Alienware 18 are known to be prone to weird behavior. The possibilities are endless and you'll have to dig deeper to identify and investigate the cause.

Is it possible the Xbox 360 driver and Xbox one driver is somehow conflicting with each other? Remove one and see if it helps

Ok so I did exactly what you guys recommended and downloaded the program whoCrashed. I installed it , and all went well. It then said type in the word accept and it would cause a bsod . It did cause a bsod and the computer rebooted. However now I cannot even get into windows. I immediately get a bsod when windows goes to start. I even went into the bios and set everything back to default settings and I cannot get into windows. I don't know what the heck happened.

I swear all I did was install the program who crashed and followed the onscreen directions. If anyone has any ideas I'm all ears. Otherwise I guess I'll be installing windows all over again. Is a stable version of windows 10 out yet? Or should I just stick with windows 7? I do have a full backup of windows with a few programs installed I can always restore from, but I maybe better off just formatting everything and starting from scratch. I just hate installing all the Alienware drivers, because if they aren't in the right order ect, it causes issues.

Nah, you did something way wrong... not sure what, though. WhoCrashed does not require typing the word "accept" to install it or to use it. Sounds almost like you downloaded something really nasty by mistake.

If you did not download it from Resplendence Software, there is no telling what it is. http://www.resplendence.com/downloads

Mr fox I downloaded the file from CNET.com which is usually virus free.

The reason i had to Enter the word accept was the program could not find any previous BSOD. It said my computer my not be set up properly for the program to work. It asked me if I wanted to cause a BSOD to see if now my computer correctly creates (I think a dump file?) the program itself installed fine. I think I'll do a fresh install anyway , unless maybe I log into windows in safe mode to see is that works? I think I have a windows 8 disc somewhere but not sure if I should update it

    CNET = Virus

Only grab files from their sources

That sounds really suspicious to me. As far as your computer not being set up properly for the program to work is concerned, that makes no sense. WhoCrashed reads the content of dump files, tells you what they contain in simple terms and provides suggestions to fix the issues whenever a suggestion is possible. I've never had it do anything even remotely similar to that... very strange, indeed.

On a side note, if you set up Windows with no page file (swap file) the dump files will not be saved and there would be nothing available to analyze. If you are not sure whether you did that or not, then chances are pretty good that you did not and the default Windows configuration will be fine. The exception might be if you use Samsung Magician's brainless performance tuning process, as that can disable your swap file. There is no harm in that on a machine with plenty of system RAM, but not saving dump files is a minor consequence of disabling the swap file. (The dump files are never important unless you need to analyze them for troubleshooting.) There are a few games and other applications that rely on a swap file and they can behave badly when they do not find one.

I appreciate your help Mr. fox. Like i said before I had a full system backup on my 4TB external drive i just restored, but here is the proof that Who Crashed asked me to enter the word ACCEPT to cause a system crash.

Sorry mr fox., my photo was taken down that showed the part where it says type in ACCEPT. anyway the program told me that my intel Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller is whats causing the blue screens when i plug in my xbox controllers. not really sure how to fix it. i uninstalled it and see if that helps . or maybe drop back all the way to the alienware version and not hte new version

ok here is the fix. go to device manager and delete the usb 3.0 extebsible host controller. restart controller , plug in all your usb devices and windows will reinstall everything correctly. it will even ask for the driver for the xbox one , so if you like download the drivers for xbox one controller, or xbox 360 wireless adapter ahead of time..
