Just like the title says. Alienware crashes while watching Youtube or Steam videos.

Here's the kicker though. It won't crash with internet explorer. I searched google for some answers and couldn't find much. Has anyone else had this issue? I even tried a fresh OS install.

    I'm not sure what laptop I have. I know its a M18, but I dunno if it's a R1 or R2 or whatever.

Any help is certainly appreciated! Thanks!

i have your exact same set up except i have 32GB ram. Answers I got here were basically that people like me and you shouldn't own our types of laptops, User Error, ect. k/ve updated all the drivers, and resinstalled windows ect. still i get the same issue. I use chrome. You could try doing a fresh install and takinmg the overclock completely off.

I had a alienware tech remotely log into my computer and he coudln't fix it, i had to send it in and they replaced the motherboard for whatever reason. so far so good. but i avoid youtube for fear of it happending. lol

Well that is certainly discouraging to hear. How much did it cost to send it in? Were you still under warranty?

Based on your specs, you have an Alienware 18, not a M18xR1 or M18xR2.

This has been a common problem in the past with the Alienware 18. It is often caused by incorrect BIOS settings, especially when overclocking the Extreme CPU with the wrong values. To test this, go into the BIOS and disable overclocking. If the problem goes away, you will need to tweak the settings to find out what your CPU likes best. There were multiple posts and threads covering this subject in late 2012/early 2013.

I had this problem when I first got my AW18. Thanks to the advice of Mr Fox and others it was fixed. I would direct you to the thread but I can't seem to find it. Still learning to navigate new thread.
