EUROCOM released a new set of Pascal MXM 3.0b cards different from whats available on the market elsewhere, and have been working with me and others to test them thoroughly.
What we are looking for is anyone willing to test these cards in thier system, if they have an eDP panel.
What we have figured out so far are the various vbioses needed for almost every upgradeable system that fits these cards, in working with Optimus, and are still working on getting them to work with eDP panels.
This is contrary to how Pascal cards, from many of your experiences would work in thier systems, as an example, the previous MSI or "N" variants as we started calling them, for the last year and a bit, would relatively ONLY work with eDP panel connected laptops.
Eventually the November update for the HD Intel graphics/Optimus added support and it was perfected not too long ago this year (took almost a year for it to work properly). Now those MSI, or 1060N, 1070N variants work in any system that can fit them pretty much.
There are some smaller exceptions though, to getting these setup properly like if you are running a eDP panel and were stuck in legacy mode, and had no GOP to switch to UEFI, then previous MSI versions of these MXM cards had no legacy support when running in dedicated mode, just like say older 600M series had no GOP to switch to UEFI in dedicated mode.
What we have now, is potentially the same thing with these cards, but ALSO new vbioses are being worked on daily and have a special team tasked to it specifically. What is needed to be tested is dedicated modes, for the EURO Pascal series, in laptops with eDP panels.
If anyone is interested in helping and sharing experiences or is willing to be guinea pigs with thier 18" Alienware's let me know, let me know. I would get you in contact with the team and work something out, not everyone will be considered, but some of you we know and trust, but the list is too long to parse through and send dozens of you guys messages, like spam.
This is not a sales thread, nor a post advertising whats available, as these are NOT yet available publicly for these systems with eDP panels, (not fully tested yet, we do not have those models for testing).
Genuinely asking if anyone with these is willing to help, and what better place then a notebook review forum, to get help in reviewing a notebook with specific features using currently unreviewed hardware.
Not even sure if this is the right forum section for this post.
Moderators let me know, I am fine if this has to be moved, if there is an appropriate section for this.

So you would only need eDP systems or is LVDS an option too?
I can definitely help with testing but i only have lvds systems at the time.

Only way to move forward would be to find one to buy, but not seeing them for sale anywhere either, or not sure what to look for to tell if its the eDP version.
anyways as for LVDS panels, these work with Optimus, so no issues. Even the MSI versions we've had around for a year now work with Optimus, even Maxwel has no issues now with Optimus either, and actually loses much less performance then it used to. Used to lose like more then 5%, now it's negligible really. -
But there are no eDP m18xR2 or AW18? Right?

But I keep reading theres an eDP panel for the 18" lineup. Course, EUROCOM believes there's an 18" Alienware with eDP too, so this is where I am wondering if it does exist. If it does, we have not tested it, is what we are saying.
I could adopt I will not believe it until I see it, wouldn't change a thing though. At one point we even saw DELL selling AW18 with SLI 980M, they of course removed it and it lasted like a day, but some people actually got this order (apparently). -
I know MSI G80 has LVDS display as well but they have some way of converting eDP to LVDS. -

When my parts come in and I strip my AW18 down, I’ll look. What does an EDP port look like, or how do I tell if my screen is EDP if it’s possible from within Windows?
-
There is NO EDP screen in the M18x R1, R2 or the Alienware 18, nor is there a socket for one. This is further confirmed by panelook as there are no 1080P eDP 18.4" panels in production currently or in the history of 18.4" panels, and there is only one very recent Boe Hydis 4K 18.4" LVDS panel that went into production long after the Alienware 18 was designed. I told eurocom this months ago when we were in testing talks. There aren't even traces on the motherboard for one based on the schematics. Its purely LVDS. MSI uses some sort of signal converter on the board. If somebody gets me the BIOS for the MSI GT83 I could look into it and see if there is a signal conversion module I could possibly port to the Alienware M18x/A18. I've thrown my hat into the ring for testing, but it went silent as soon as I said I wasn't interested in buying the cards, just simply test and return.
Anybody wanting to try the 1060/1070/1080 will need to modify their heatsinks.
Woodzstack you can forward this to your superiors so they can put this Alienware 18/M18x eDP rumor to rest
