    Hey Guys,

Recently my 18 has been having some strange problems with startup and waking after sleeping when I close the lid. It doesn't seem to wake up after I close the lid. The screen will remain black but all of the lights turn on. I have to hold the power button to shut it down then boot. After I boot when this happens Windows won't startup properly. The windows icon won't even showup and I will get a black screen after the initial sequence with the Alienware logo appears. I then need to reboot a second time for windows to start properly. I can't seem to figure out whats going on here as everything else functions as it should. Has anybody else ever suffered the same problem?

    Thank you,

    T

When did it start? What changed that you are aware of?

Have you tried using System Restore to roll back to a date when it was not happening?

There is a good chance that a Windows Update screwed things up for you... very common. If you don't already have Automatic Windows Updates disabled completely through group policy or registry tweak, you should look into that. To avoid problems, Windows Updates are best applied manually on a genuine "need to have" basis and not a "ready or not, here I come" shotgun approach, Micro$haft style. Think about it... how many huge corporations with thousands of workstations and laptops apply every stinking Windows Update that Micro$haft projectile vomits through the Automatic Updates utility? For those that don't know, it is generally not very many... only the critical security updates. An never indiscriminately and automatically. Why? Because the other approach screws things up. Also, find and disable Windows automatic driver updates... this can be a huge problem-causer. Drivers should never be automatically updated unless you're a masochist that loves fixing computer problems in your spare time.

I have the exact same issue. I've noticed it only really happens when on battery mode. I tend to leave it plugged in with no battery and it doesn't seem to do it

Same issue here. They even sent me a new computer after replacing all the parts in the other one and it still has the exact same issue. They are now requesting me to reinstall windows again and wipe everything to fix it. Just didn't logical! Any fixes that you know of?

I had this exact same problem about a month ago but it just stopped happening for no good reason recently.
