Alienware 18 crashes every time I've let it go to sleep.

Has anyone else experienced anything like the title indicates?

It goes to sleep. Give it a good couple minutes to finish "falling asleep," otherwise it will turn back on but with no display (and the display won't work again without a hard reset). When I come back and try to turn it on it boots up from nothing and right into the "windows detected an improper shutdown" screen.

I'm waiting to get in touch with AW support. Their forums / services seem to be down.

I had a similar problem, the mouse would freeze and I had to do a hard shut down. I haven't contacted support yet, but you can change the power settings about when it goes to sleep. I might have to do a clean install, because it started when I installed a new SSD. Let me know how support handles it. Thx

Updating the video drivers or using the DELL provided drivers should help you with this issue. Here is some more info about this type of behavior.

Try the info from Brother Luis first. If you still have issues, come back and do this 3-step routine. It should take care of the problem for you. This works for me 100% of the time and makes everything good. You might lose 2 or 3 precious seconds from your day doing it this way, but it's a really small price to pay for consistently flawless execution.

theres always power / sleep issues on laptops... some work flawlessly some depending on how you use it, whats installed etc, will get buggy. Its usually best to just use full power mode and hibernate when you want to rest the machine. That's been the usual safety way of doing it, but even then hibernation can screw up, but usually doesn't.

The hardware power button and Windows Shut Down link never messes up... no crashing, freezing, blue screen, black screens or anything. It reliably turns the computer on and off every time for me. ;)

Thanks guys. Aside from my wifi being a little unreliable (which is most likely external interference) I think this thing rocks my socks off. Next up I'll be shooting for that 144hz display and an SSD. Although I may forego the SSD in favor of a dual power adapter - depending on how Mr. Fox and woodzstack tests go. You guys are my heroes by the way. I don't think I'd be comfortable testing something like that out myself, but let me know if there is something I can do to help.

    Best,
    S
