Ok, so I have read a few posts here about turning my voltage down and setting my multipliers to 39x. As soon as I try the stress test, for a minute, in XTU the temps jump to the mid to high 90's. This jump happens within the first 10 seconds. Is it time to re-paste?? I have only had the 18 for a year. for the past few months though, I have not been gaming on it. Now when I try to run Dragon Age: Inquisition, it shuts down on me. I am currently running the A10 BIOS on the i7-4930MX.

One of the first things what I have done after I bought an Alienware 18 was re-paste CPU and GPUs. I'll recommend to re-paste after that long time on stock paste, especially if you plan to overclock. Also try to lift up a back of the laptop slightly.
And disable Package Turbo Power Lock.
Mr. Fox can help you with overclocking. Good thread: How to Overclock the Alienware 18 and Haswell CPU (or actually have it run full stock Turbo Speed)
But wait for more experienced users to answer, anyway. :)

I totally agree... Repaste with IC diamond/Gelid GC Extreme and if you overclock, follow that thread..

Well, that did it. Repasted with Arctic Silver 5 and under stress the cpu hits low 80s at best.

Dell use some kind of simple tape on the GPUs and CPUs. Paste work by filling in microscopic holes on the die, which the tape wont be able to do. Which is why Im sceptical and also think everyone should repaste their AW18 to get the best cooling possible

Good job, I've repasted mine cpu after only 3 months of use (from arctic mx4 to the metal way ;))
I think yours will going better after the cure time of 24h of system use, but if you try the coolaboratory liquid ultra you'll never come back to other thermal compound paste :hi2:

Quote Cloudfire that DEll's compounds is a very thin layer, and when a Dell's technician come to change is still worst than ever.

Nothing can quite match a good user paste job :)

AS-5 is junk.. Get IC Diamond and Gelid GC Extreme and those temps will be 70-75C tops... I can say this for sure because I used MX-4 and once I used IC Diamond, my temps dropped by 10C under load and I could OC to 3.9GHz.. I could probably do 4.0 but will wait for my cooler before doing that...

If you are going to use that 4930MX the way God intended it to be used, you're not going to be satisfactory results from anything except for Liquid Ultra. Nothing else will do, even a little bit, past about 4.0GHz with a Haswell MX blast furnace CPU.
