Mine was the opposite of your issue. When i plug the ac , my screen dims , and cpu throttle ... it's weird.

My M18X R1 did the same thing. I just left the battery out. I am doing the same with my A18 as well. I dont need a battery. I use it as a desktop.

I still think you have a bad AC adapter. If removing the battery creates more issues that further suggests the AC adapter is no good. Having the battery installed should be irrelevant and the behavior noted in the videos further suggests the AC adapter is failing. I do not recommend continuing to use it, as there is a remote chance it could be harmful. It could also have a problem with the socket the AC adapter plugs into on the left rear corner.

You can play games with just AC without battery if your PSU is working 100%.

No it works like a charm with only AC Adapter no problems.

    AC Adapter only = Perfect
AC adapter + battery = bad
    Battery only = SUPER BAD

OK, well then the battery is probably messed up. If it has a short internally it can damage the laptop or the AC adapter. It almost has to be one or the other. Since it works fine with AC adapter only, take the battery out or unplug it until you can get it replaced so nothing bad happens. If the machine is under warranty it may be covered. Battery wear is not covered under warranty, but defects like an internal short might be. Maybe Brother @Alienware-L_Porras can provide some direction on this.

Just wondering, do you use desktop mode battery charge? My laptop would disconnect the AC adapter if i use it and starts running on battery.

I had same problem while my AW was still covered by warranty. The replaced PSU (didnt help) then motherboard (didnt help) then finaly the battery and problem was gone.

You can try flexing your unit with the battery in and powered on to see if it triggers the issue each time. If it has a bad contact that continuously barely taps the receiver, you can experience these explained lock ups. Its unfortunately pretty common in 17.3 gaming laptops that get moved around frequently. If it does in fact turn out to be that, the hard part is figuring out if its your battery or contacts coming from the mobo.

Flexing in an Alienware 18 (or M18xR1, M18xR2, or M17xR2) chassis is non-existent. They don't have any flex because they are made of metal and extremely rigid. The Alienware 18 battery is connected by a wire that plugs into a socket. It does not have contacts like most laptops.
