When playing on my PS4 sometimes the HDMI will lose connection and then flash back on in a couple of seconds. I have checked it is not my PS4 by trying it with a monitor and TV. Is this a well known problem and can it be fixed?

Some of us were having issues similar to this on the M18x platform because the HDMI cable wasn't fully inserted. This was because the HDMI-in port on the laptop is slightly recessed because of the thickness of the chassis. I had to get an X-Acto knife and shave back some of the rubber on the HDMI cable so it could be fully inserted.

If this doesn't help, then whatever software is in charge of switching output to your laptop's LCD might be going haywire.

Hi. I have the same problem. My hdmi on my Xbox one is reverting back to desktop or going black screen. I've modded an hdmi lead so it fits better but still cuts away from my Xbox. Please help.

If I was you i'd try to reinstall alienware on-screen display(can get it from dell website) and do a clean install using ddu and the latest signed graphics drivers...Also some background programs might be responsible for switching you back to the desktop like Samsung magician or blue stacks I've had problems with.
