    Hey everyone,

Seems my 880s might have burned out and will be sending back to Dell to get fixed. At this point, I am assuming they will be replacing with the same graphic cards? Do they still replace 880s? (wishful thinking on my part that they will need to upgrade :p )

    Thanks!

LOL, had a power surge (sparks came out) and when I opened it up, they both were burned (as well as motherboard). I'm just curious what they will replace it with. I have had it for over 3 years now

Better off with a new Dellienware 17 with a GTX 1060/1070 than a burned out GPU. You can repaste and everything will be fine..hopefully.

    Ehm no.
a GTX 1060 destroys 880SLI in performance and efficiency. The only thing that will be sad is the non upgrade path on graphics card.

Well ok, I'm not much of an upgrader so what you are saying is that new games will run better.....

What games did you play on your 880SLI system? I'll give you something concrete.

To give you an idea, I set all settings on high and am playing on 1080p with average FPS of 84ish.

everything maxed out on ultra takes me down to 60ish and few drops to mid 50s, hence I rather want high, but it would give you a pretty good idea on how powerful the GTX 1060 is compared to your old system.

Ok cool, that is good to know. Thanks! So technically, if that is what they give me, it will be an "upgrade" from that standpoint. Now just hoping my HDD escaped damage cause I dont know if I would want to start over lol

Even if the HDD is burned, you can still save the data from it, since they are written to a disk.It is a bit costly tho.
Overall yes, it would be an upgrade in terms of I/O, graphicscard, battery life and display, but you will likely fight thermal issues, upgradability issues, CPU is a downgrade depending on what model you get etc.

Best thing to do is to contact Dellienware and see what they have to offer.
