    Immediately.

The fans will inhale every nano-bit of dust, fluff, hair, fur, dander, bugs, insects from the immediate area. If the fans aren't on....then there is some unknown immutable electrostatic force that will cause dust, fluff, hair, fur, etc, to pass thru parallel universes and become adhered to the internals of your lappy.....Nobody has figured out why.....it just happens. :D

I always wipe down any table or desk daily, before I set up my lappy up...(I use windex and a microfiber cloth)..it helps a lot...but you still get dust and such...

No, I mean... how long before it actually forms a solid barrier against the vent that you have to go in and remove - that's after a while that you had dust circling inside. 1 month? 2? 6?

I would suspect that would depend on the environment that you are in (how dusty). But...I personally would not let the dust/fluff build up to that extreme. I believe that you would see some pretty high CPU/GPU temps at/or before that point....and I don't know if you would encounter throttling because of the temps encountered...I'm kinda talking through my hat at this point...I don't have that kind of knowledge...I am just surmising from my own past experience that you are setting yourself up for some grief, if you let the vents become that restricted. A regular cleaning regimen with canned air has worked well for me. :)

Brother Stranger, if I could operate my computers inside some NASA-like vacuum sealed, dust-free, microbe-free, humidity-free, temperature-controlled, anti-static environment with me sealed inside some sort of space suit-like apparel that would guarantee the purity of my babies... I WOULD! Sadly enough, Bill Gates still isn't returning my calls and seems to be completely ignoring my reasonable requests for him to split his money with me, so I'm SOL for now. Until that glorious day comes, I die a little inside every time I whip out the compressed air, q-tips, and rubbing alcohol. C'est la vie!

This is going to depend on the environment. For some in a very dusty, dirty climate, along with animal dander, smoke and other airborne particles it might take only a month to start clogging things up. In other environments it might take much longer... maybe as much as a year or so, if you're in a low-dust climate and a controlled work environment. It's probably a good idea to pop off the bottom cover and clean it up at least once every 3 to 6 months no matter what. It's super easy and only takes a few minutes.

I completely understand.....I have an M7700...if it is perfectly clean...I can cook Sunday morning breakfast on the keyboard...if it is at all dusty.....the fire alarms go off...and the toast gets burnt :D.....I have become absolutely an** retentive about keeping my lappys clean after purchasing that heat source.....love the colour though....nuclear blue :D

Dude, in the world of gaming laptops, the M7700 is a classic, akin to 1970 Chevelle SS or similar muscle car. It's show-stoppingly sexy, it's faster than @&%! in a straight line but a bit too voluptuous to handle being thrown around much, and it runs hot enough to melt the polar ice-caps. But who cares, just look at her!

I also liked the M9700 in the green color a lot... very nice.

A friend of mine collects old computer hardware, mainly desktop video cards and laptops. He has an M9700 in that color green and I have to say, it's seriously awesome looking. That and I love how the CD drive ejects from the front, what a cool machine.

I have to say that the M7700 did cause me a bit of grief.........the wyfe said one day " I think that you love that laptop more than me"....I kind of hummed and hawed and stammered....then the telephone rang,,,,,,saved by the bell...... :D

"Of coarse I love her more than you, honey! She'll do whatever I tell her to do when I tell her to do it, she doesn't require a cuddle session after we play games, and I can turn her on and off with the push of a button... she cost a lot less than you too. Uh, I mean, I love you honey!"

I know that feeling :). I prefer the mAlx, but I love those colors too. I think that when I got some spare money I will start collecting old Alienwares like those.

Not a bad hobby at all, Rotary Heart! I can see why my friend has a collection, the prices of these "old" gems on eBay is usually rock bottom. I wouldn't mind putting together a collection myself.
