I tried installing a 980m in my alienware 18 earlier, but now my system won't start and beeps 7 times continually. I have tried removing the card and trying again but I am still getting the 7 beeps.
I'm thinking of trying to reset the bios next by removing the coin cell battery.
Anyone else have any experience of this who can help?
Thanks

Try to reset your BIOS.
What happens when you start without your graphicscard?
Normally 7 beeps there is an issue with the CPU, but knowing alienware it could be anything really.
You can try and take all parts apart, clean everything up, repaste and see if it wants to go with resetted BIOS etc. It helped a lot of users. -

Alienware 18 or M18X R2 ?
I believe you have to update to latest bios for Alienware 18 to recognize it. -
If you have the Alienware 18 (october 2014 or later version) you need to update your BIOS to A12 before installing the GTX980m

It's the alienware 18 (2014)
Got it sorted, reset the coin cell battery and took the ram out and put it back in again, then I got 5 beeps which was progress! Then I shut it down and restarted it and it started up.
I thought I already had the A12 bios but re installed it and the 980m is working fine now.Papusan and Rengsey R. H. Jr. like this.
