I'm sure there are afew ways to do this, but i'm looking for the easiest way to stop my 680M's from downclocking, i've set nvidia control panel settings to prefer maximum performance, and they still downclock to roughly base clock, and randomly spike up, i know its just part of the nvidia driver software using less power when not required, but i'd rather it run at full tilt since they are overclocked

sorry for my mumbling i'm rather tired and just about to goto sleep! any help is greatly appreciated

If your overclocked and the card is down clocking then I'm pretty sure your over clock is not stable. Have you stress tested your overclock?

The problem is the driver. If you are using the nvidia 320.18 WHQL I suggest to do a windows clean install, this is how I fixe it on my system. I used driver sweeper, Ccleaner and Notting worked. The only thing that worke was a clean windows install.

I don't know if this suggestion has already been covered in another thread, but what about using the K-BOOST function in evga PrecisionX with the 680Ms? I know it works with the GTX 690 and locks the chosen overclock. I set it today for the 690 and created two bat files (that call and use nvidiainspector settings) for quick and easy load overclock/overvolt or idle status. It works like a charm. I think it should work fine with the 680m since I found a post in which Mr. Fox says he's been using it.

Side note: I noticed that games installed from steam have some issues (flickering, lower fps, games starting in border-less window, GPUs downclocking, etc) caused by the Steam OSD. Maybe it conflicts with AlienFX, OSD, or HWINFO/PrecisionX OSDs, but I noticed that Alt + Tabbing a couple of times in game restores the GPUs closk from 758 to my usual 1006. Give it a try.

If you haven't already done so, get one of svl7's OC Edition vBIOS and that should stop the dynamic nonsense. There is no reason to allow the GPUs to downclock to save power. They should run wide open clock speeds regardless of how much or how little the game demands of them. I didn't play around much with K-boost. When it is engaged, it appears to disable adaptive behavior. I like using a modded vBIOS better. While I do like NVIDIA products, I don't like their approach with stuff like GPU boost. Why not just cut to the chase and run at full boost speed all of the time?

I use (and tried several) slv7 modded vBIOS and in some games (mostly those from steam) I see the GPU downclocking to stock 758 in the less demanding scenes. It's not throttling because temps never go above 68C (70C max at +262/400). In order to restore the full overclock I have to Alt + Tab a couple of times (In case you're wondering even downclocking both GPUs are working, it's not a SLI vs single card issue). Maybe that's the same "problem" he's experiencing.

Yup, i haven't tried alt-tabbing etc etc, but i do have svl7's newest bios as of a few weeks ago, and temps are not nearly exceeding the 60-65's during WoW gameplay. i just want the video card to stick to its max clocks

It is downclocking in WoW due to low gpu load, as the game is poorly optimized and cpu bound.

I dont think you can, it is normal behavior and you would not benefit if clocks were higher because load is so low. You might be able to benefit more if you OC'ed your cpu +400mhz if you have not already.

Core clock +400mhz? Is that what you're using now for gaming?

Littleone is correct the downclocking is due to the games lack of gpu usage. I played it for about 10 minutes today just to compare and my 680 downclocked to desktop speed and I still got 100fps

i had throttling problems for long with my 18x. I finally found out it was my cpu that throttled the whole system. I downloaded throttlestop and ticked the PROCHOT something setting and solved everything :)

If the game run at 60+, why do you care if they downclock or not. Just enjoy the game
