WOOHOOO!!! Going to buy one now! Does that come with support plate? Is that shipped?

Does anyone know if I can use my existing 6970m backplate + heatsink?

I just paid a around $615 (565 for card and 50 additional for tax) for my card through dell.... the tech said it only comes with just the bare gpu... I remember reading somewhere that at that price I should be getting heat sink too... can anyone confirm? Or did I just get ripped off by dell?

Is this for the 7970m? You've got to watch those sneaky Dell Sales reps. I ordered a "7970m" once, I received a 7970 desktop graphics card. I only paid 556.00 for that though, so hopefully you got the correct one!

Crazy thing is part #8DG8P was quoted $3xx.xx, has anyone ever ordered this part? Does it include the GPU? The sales person told me it doesnt include GPU.... How accurate is the list of part #'s on the R4 parts list?

So with that price should the heatsink be included?

i have no idea if the heatsink is included for that price. My guess is no...however, someone here got the heatsink for $25.

You're 69xx heatsink will work so there actually is no need to get another heatsink

Hmmm... will the OCing guide work for Sagers as well? Because I followed it but MSI Afterburner has it at 0 and I can't move the bar.

EDIT: Nvm, got it to work.

Has anyone ordered the part no. 8DG8P from dell???

It supposed to be the AMD 7970m video card + the backplate. What's weird is that I got a quote from dell saying that this thing is 315$ and from reading this conversation I guess that the video card should be more expensive, right?

I am looking to upgrade my laptop to a 7970m that's why i am asking about it. I was searching on ebay for it but nobody has them.

I'm curious when some real drivers will come out for this beast... you go to the AMD website and the 7970m card isn't listed... I even downloaded the auto detect deal and it can't see it's own hardware... crazy... I'm using your modded drivers which are working great but would be nice to see some support from AMD... I guess that's what you get when you buy brand new gear... 8) Love the machine!!

we just have to be patient and make do in the meantime. Can you imagine getting another 10% performance just from good drivers! The thought is making me salivate right now :)

Also i see you have the 3720 @ 105...it is probably better to set that back to 100 and enable Extreme Edition in your bios and set your multi's to 40,39,38,38...that's right bro, 4ghz

this is a bug in Afterburner...you should be able to set it much higher...but it only shows 860 on the right side monitor. Ultimately, the only way to know is run some 3dmark11's and hopefully you'll see an increase in scores as your set your Core higher

    Hey guys,

Talked to the dell rep. and the Part. No. 8DG8P for the 7970m is not the one that includes the card. In order to get the card from dell you have to ask for the Part No. 747M2 which is just the card by itself and sells for about 600$. This does not include the heat sink for people who are upgrading from nVidia.

I see you mention salivate... I think I just pooped my pants... !! Love it... I seen that in the bios and was wondering if you needed an extreme processor to use that option... the second I finish this I'm booting into bios... 8)

I love this ... I found a book dating back to March 14th, 1999... where I overclocked a Pen 2 350mhz chip to whopping 420mhz! Then in 2005 I clocked a Pen 4 ~ 3.4Ghz to 4.12! I really wanted to hit 4.0Ghz so I needed water cooling... lol... all the stats... I should take pictures!

    Thanks Slick!

nope, you don't need an extremem processor...3720's and 3820's have limited overclocking...go in and enable Extreme edition, then set the multipiers to 40,39,38,38...you are good to go.

I'm intrigued with an option to disable SpeedStep Technology... would that disable the cpu throttling?... I also seen in XTU that the core multipliers were already at 40, 39, 38, 37... so I bumped that last one up... but I still think I want to do it in the bios... thanks for your insight.... 8)

I have a 7970 running in my M17x r2, but the fan is stuck on full. Running the desktop 12.4 driver I modified for the 7970 (6800 DevID). Played around for about 20 minutes trying to get 2 running, but no success. Maybe with more time.

Great tip on using the MSI util - thanks. Wish they'd fix GPU-Z...

The guys on the m18x forum have 7970m xfire running on the modded 12.5 beta drivers found in my guide. You could try those out and see.

it appears that the 7970m's will work in the R2 but you'll need custom fan control. At least for those willing to run HWINFO, these vid cards have prolonged the life of the laptop

Are the 12.6 beta's no good to try?

I have HWiNFO set to run @windows startup I love it so much :D

    >>> now I just need to win the lottery and I'm set for my 7970M!

Regardless, I see me holding onto my R2 forever in the guise of a HTPC!

DR, you opened up that R4 yet or what?! :p

I should be finally receiving my 7970M in the next week or 2. Ran into some problems with my new address, but finally got it straightened out.

I'm currently on the modded A08 bios. Do I need to flash to another bios and which one should I flash too?

I've got the next 2 weeks off from work, so I really hope I get my card before then.

among others....altho they didnt even know about sager´s modded vBIOS yet so they just told me that id have to buy a new machine since the new gpus arent compatible with the HM series :p lets see what theyre gonna say to my elaborate e-mail containing the link to the petition thread here ;)

    cheers

PS: holy s***! sager´s quote would come down to 665$ including 110$ shipping! add to that 19% import tax that would bring the 7970M to almost 800 bucks! schenker, help me out here! or any other european reseller out there.... :(

Hello, i wanted to ask you, how do you install those modded drivers? Im just scared ecsuse the last time i tried upgrading mu drivers on my r3 i ran into multiple issues. I just did a clean install to all stock drivers.. If you dont mind telling me what to do i would greatly appreciate it as i am looking to start to oc my 7970m after updating drivers.
    Thanks

Also for some reason no game starts up if I even go as little as 945/1385... So far Im running 905/1305

Is there any special setting I need to enable/change/disable in afterburner??

For those that have purchased their 7970Ms from Dell, do they include paste with the cards? I'm currently awaiting mine, should be here this week, and just want to know if I need to purchase paste or not. The part numbers I have are 0MMPT & 3PVGK.

My status page says the description for 0MMPT is ASSEMBLY, HEATSINK, VIDEO GRAPHICS ADAPTER, ADVANCED MICRO DEVICES, M17XR4 and for 3PVGK is PLATE, BOTTOM, SUPPORT, VIDEO GRAPHICS ADAPTER, ADVANCED MICRO DEVICES, ATI GRAPHICS CARD, AV MLK.

    Update:

Currently running 900/1300 stock voltage 12.5 beta drivers - GPU temp does not pass 61c under load (stress testing with MSI Kumbuster 10minutes)

Still when I bump it up to 920/1300 games freeze - when I bring it to 950/1350 games never enter main menu, just freeze...
What might be the issue? I dont understand...

The issue is: all GPUs are different. Some overclock better than others, some don't. Some suck, some are epic. Simple as that.

I mean its not a living thing how in the world can there be such a huge difference between two of the same GPUs? where one can top out 1ghz/1.5ghz and another 900/1300?
