    Hi there,

i made the decision to buy me a ssd for my machine but still after reading several tests on the web iam still not sure about which one to

i read a lot of complains about sata3 drives only working on sata2 speeds or causing other problems freezes etc.

so which sata2 drive would you buy? thinking about samsung 470 series which is also used by dell i think

    thanks in advice

There would be the new Samsung 830 (backwards compatible with SATA2), but we should have accurate info on its performance as SATA3 and if there are problems with bsod and / or freeze, on the M14x, by those who already installed.

    Hi : Cool:

i have the Samsung 830 in my m14x. Works well with no boot issues and runs at SATAIII speeds. I've have 1 or 2 BSOD but have had the drive for almost a month so thats not bad. Occasional issues with resuming from hibernate too but thats the same issue with all SSD drives. Its slightly more expensive but for me was worth the extra money and its a quality drive.

Another vote for the Samsung 830 .... I've had it for about a month. Runs at SATAIII if I use msahci, but gives a few errors in the event viewer, and one or 2 BSODs. Changed it to iastor and it was rock solid stable .... but ran at SATAII only. I would definitely recommend it.

Try not to go with OCZ SSDs, yes they are cheaper and quite fast. But if you're looking for reliability OCZ is not recommended. I'm currently using one myself i went through a lot of trouble trying to find the solution to my booting problem and still no luck. I have to flash my firmware to old version to make it more stable but still have a bit of booting problem. I heard Intel 320 is quite good in terms of reliability with m14x but running on SATA 2 speed, however new one is coming out.

you mean a new Sata II from Intel?
well the 320 series are quite good for sata2 but i would´t buy it just because of the 8 mb bug :/

I bought the 320 drive and apparently that was caused by old firmware which they don't ship the drive with :)
