Have any of you guys seen both side by side? My wife has a 13" Dell with a 1366x768 resolution display and I like it really well as I prefer bigger text, icons, ect. I do NOT like 1080p type resolutions on a 15" laptop, not even on a 17" laptop. Its far too small small in my opinion.

I'm leaning towards the 1366x768 resolution personally, but have read poor reviews about the m14x display in general. Most of all I just want to make sure the quality on the 1366x768 display is at the very minimum at least the same as my crappy m11x display in regards to color accuracy and brightness. If the m14x is worse I doubt I would keep the laptop after my order. I almost felt I needed to send the m11x back after seeing how bad the display is, but I've gotten used to it now - - though it is still noticably crappy when compared to any standalone LCD. My wife's 4 year old 10' asus netbook has a significantly better display than my m11x.

900p for sure then. i got used to the smaller text, and now when i go back to my old pc, i think the text is too big and awkward. lol

great screen, great price. no reason not to imo

I wouldn't upgrade just for the higher resolution. I use a 32" TV as a monitor on my regular computer with only 1080P. I like big fonts and text. I'd only be interested in the upgrade to the 1600x900 if the 1366x768 screen is of noticably worse actual picture/viewing quality. If they are ~ about the same then I will happily just pick the standard option.

for me, it had to be 1600 x 900. as you want the highest res you can get as it looks great! But get the lower res to gain a few fps.

1366x768 on a 14 inch scren is similar to 1600x900 on a 17 inch screen. My sisters 14 inch computer has 1366x768 and when I put them side by side you can see how the display on the m14x has so much more room on screen.

But, what I think is best? Well if you prefer big text, and use an external monitor most of the time, then its probably fine. If youre going to use the laptop screen alot, the 1600x900 display might be more worthwhile. Dont forget you can change the screen size to "Medium" in Windows settings, which is probably similar to 720p

guys I'm really trying to ask if there is any difference in quality on these two screens. --- not the difference in resolution as it relates to more real estate. Are the colors and brightness aspects similar?

yes people say the 768p screen is supposed to look washed out and the colors (the gamut) is supposed to be even less compared to the 900p screen, but most importantly, its also darker (i have read somewhere that the 768p has only 200 cdm compared to the 900p 300cdm)

this shouldn't surprise you though, since 768p is the cheap standard for alot of 14' notebooks especially the cheap ones! The 900p though isnt used on cheap notebooks alot and is kind of a premium on the m14x, i would highly recommend getting the 900p screen, i dont know alot of 14' notebooks that even have 900p screens, my bet would be that only premium ones have

also, in games you can always change the resolution to 768p so the "more frames argument because of lower res" isnt valid, since you dont lose any sharpness, atleast ingame when using a lower resolution such as 768p

900p, higher resolution = more space to work, it is best to get the highest possible resolution you can afford, and if you dont like the small text you can always magnified it (then it will look like a 768p on a 900p, yet still provide you more space than the original 768p) or lower the resolution to 768p, this is the advantage because if you chose the 768p, then there's no way you can switch to the 900p.

I think the "Poor review about M14x display" isnt the screen resolution, it is the glossy screen surface of the laptop.

I upgraded to the M14x from an M11x R1 because the M11x screen was too hard for me to read. I got the 1366x768 screen on the M14x and in my opinion, it is equal quality to the M11x, only larger. They both seem to have the same narrow viewing angle, but it's less of an issue with the larger screen of the M14x.

Yeah the 900p is of higher quality. So your best bet may be to get the 900p screen and turn everything to Medium under windows settings

Always take the higher resolution screen if possible, you can always lower the resolution in software or make text larger, but you cant increase resolution. If they did a 1080p display for the m14x I would gladly take one :)

    1600x900 all the way.

As many others mentioned, you could always lower the resolution.

If you are going to use the M14x for Microsoft Excel or Word, or any other kind of work that may require using multiple windows, then definitely get 1600x900. However, if you are only using this for gaming and you really do not like small text at all, then go with 1366x768.

I personally prefer my 1600x900 and do not find the text to small so far, however I do think that in certain games the text can be small. In Dragon Age: Origins the text can be small at 1600x900, but in Skyrim it is just fine because Skyrim is a console port (made with the Xbox in mind) so it has much larger text for use with televisions viewed at a far distance.

I'm using a 14" HP 8460P with a 1600x900 resolution and do not like it - text is too small - so I guess that's my answer.

    1366x768 it is -- should I decide to move to a m14x.

Even the 1600 x 900 screen is average at best (this was my biggest issue with my m14x). Cant imagine ever getting a resolution any lower than that. You can always change the resolution to make the text larger.

sigh* if you will be using the 768 resolution, get THAT... you will pay more for the 900 res and can ALWAYS just hook up a monitor with a higher res if you want higher or just a bigger screen and go for a lower resolution... i personally went with 900 even though my eyes suck (but as long as i keep the screen close to my face it's fine... takes a couple days to get used to though)... it's really up to you if you think you'll ever use the 900p though

I would get the one with the more pixels, and the more rams, and the more GBs, and the more Hertzes, and the more GPUssss

I can't compare quality other than to say that my M14x;'s 768 screen is significantly lower in quality than my M15x's screen which I think is 900. Both in terms of color richness, contrast, and consistent brightness across the screen. I have not seen the M14x 900 screen though for comparison.

I'm not 100% sure they use the only 2 types of screens but my original order was for a 900 one and that's listed as a Samsung:

    2PVPT Module,Liquid Crystal Display,14HD+,FWLED,True Life,SAMSNG

My replacement one I'm using now is a 768 one and is from LG Philips:

    50T4X Module,Liquid Crystal Display,14HD,SLIM,White Light Emitted Diode,AG,Lg Philips Lcd

I personally liked the Samsung one better but it had dead pixels. I got jacked cuz I ordered refurb and they did not have any remaining m14x's left with the 900 screen so I got the 768 as a replacement w/ other upgraded components to make up for the cost.
