Try to turn the system ON and wait, after a minute or two it should restart by itself and be ready to push F2 to enter bios. I also went through this, but with changing another setting in Bios.

I would try unplugging battery, unplugging from mains, and holding start button for a minute or two, then put everything back in and try to start. Some people had similar problems, try contacting them also.

Yes, I know a sure way to re-set, but try the above first. Basically take the laptop apart and disconnect CMOS battery for a few minutes.
    The guide is here.

been there my friend, i had the same thing happen to me when i was playing with an untested custom bios, all you have to do is flash the bios, i have the file and i can email it to you with instructions if you would like or you can find it on dells website somewhere, not exactly sure where it will be

Yes, the blue one is CMOS. You will always get 5 beeps after clearing CMOS (well, I always did). Then after 2 restarts everything was back to normal, and Bios got re-set to defaults.

If the above is not the case, I would flash to any official (not unlocked) Bios from Dell support download page (I saw there also Bioses bootable from Dos). Flashing to not-unlocked Bios should re-set the value you changed as you can not access it in such Bios.

I hope this helps a bit, please let me know how it goes.

Well, I don't know how, but i think the BIOS of m14x is Ami not Phoenix - 5 beeps was conflict in keyboard wiring. In phoenix 5 beeps - is a dead processor)) Everything is fine))) The only thing i could say - do not ever touch display settings - otherwise you'll have my problems)

Happy you sorted it out. I also had an urge to change in PCI Express Configuration DMI Extended Synch from Disabled to Enabled. My laptop died as a horse shot by a nuke.

But, if you Enable 'TCO Watchdog Support' in 'ACPI Table/features control' menu together with 'use watchdog timer for ICC' in 'Extended ICC' menu, you will always get into Bios in case you change something you are not supposed to. After unsuccessful start Bios reverts value you changed last.

And in 'Extended ICC' menu I would not try to click on anything else except the 'use watchdog timer for ICC'. Some of the other menus in 'Extended ICC' menu cause bios to freeze.

    enjoy your laptop lol
