I have an Alienware 14 with a 765m GPU and I'm trying to find out if it's possible to upgrade. I know it's more difficult since it's mounted on the motherboard, but would it be possible to get a new motherboard with a better GPU? Alternatively, is it possible to get an external GPU with this model?

EDIT: I use an external monitor most of the time, if that makes any difference.

Nope and nope, unless you have the skills to de-solder and re-solder a GPU successfully.

I definitely can't do that. What about getting a different motherboard with a better GPU attached or using an external GPU? I've read on a few site's that it's possible to connect an external card with some models, I just don't know if mine is compatible. I know the motherboard itself is replaceable since I've had to have it replaced before when the GPU stopped working.

The AW14 best GPU is the gtx765m so even if you get a new mobo it will have that gpu at best... And the AW14 doesn't support the graphics amplifier

Is it possible to use an external GPU without the graphics amplifier?

It would be possible, but it'll be terrible since you are at the mercy of USB 3.0 bandwidth, which isn't a lot compared to Thunderbolt.
In other words, not worth it.

I guess I'll just make do with this until I get around to buying a new computer. Thanks for the advice.

The only difference that you could make from one motherboard to the other one if you have the 765m would be the vRAM amount. At this point, adding a SSD or extra ram would do better in terms of upgrading.

I'm not sure if that would make much difference. I'm trying to make sure I can run the Witcher 3 and it looks like my GPU is the biggest limitation.
