Hi! I have had my m14x about 4months now, had some problems with it earlier so I'm hoping it's not the same. Anyway, bought crysis 3 today after I made sure it could run well on my system with decent settings. After I installed it I tried, but it have a lot of lag. Both online and campaign. I started lowering the settings, with no result and now all the setting are at low, even the resolution is on the lowest, but it still lags a lot. I made sure the game is whitelisted in nvidia control panel. Ended all other non essential programs. but still a lot of lag.

I then tried to update the nvidia driver to the newest 314.07 version, even tho dell have not yet released this one. But still no better results.
I have now tried crysis 1 and even here I have a lag, witch really scares me. could it be something wrong with my hw?

I did a clean re install of windows and all driver just a few days ago, and upgraded the bios to A10(I know it's a new one out now).

This is really the first game I bought for this laptop, so i'm kind of a noob when it comes to this:/ but I don't really have any other idea of what to do.

Could it be my graphics card just don't work properly? as I understand this is integrated in the motherboard on m14x?

    m14x r2
    i7-3630qm @2,4GHz
    8gb ram
    geforce gt 650m 2gb
    500gb hdd
    win7-64bit

    Hmmm well...

1st: Make sure you always have your power plan in: Max Settings and plugged into the AC outlet.
2nd: How many FPS are you getting? Temps both your GPU and CPU would be nice.

It's definitely odd, that not even on lowest settings... You should be able to play mid-high with your M14x...

My guess is that you're running the game with the Intel 4000 GPU and not the Nvidia GPU.

Also, a guy posted earlier about some throttling issues with crysis 3 and his 314.07 driver update. Read about it, Maybe its happening to you too.

But we definitely need more info, mate.

After about 1min in campaign on lowest settings it goes really slow. Used gpu z to track the temp etc.
    GPU clock: 699,5Mhz
    GPU memory clock: 1000.3Mhz
    Temp: 67c
    load: 98%
    memory controlles load: 48%
    video engine load: 0%
    memory usage dedicated: 372MB
    memory usage dynamic: 97mb
    VDDC: 0,9500V
This is for the NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M, I turned the function in nvidia on that shows gpu activity and crysis is there.

As I said I'm new to this so the values don't tell me much. Only thing I know is that something is wrong here :p

About the drivers. I had the earlier one first, the one people are saying is working, but I still had the same issue, therefore I just tried with the new one, since thats suppose to be the crysis 3 driver.

My power is connected and power plan set to high performance.

I dont know how to check the fps, but I will check it and come back to you!

    Cheers!

Ok, just checked fps. Starts of on about 45-50 for a few seconds and then go down to about 12-14. sometimes it bounce back up to 40 again for a few second, but that is if nothing is going on on the screen.

This is still on lowest possible settings!

used FRAPS, if that is important..

just for fun I tried fraps on high settings. It gives me a glorious 3-4fps.

These clock speeds are all messed up mate... O_O

    Idle GPU Clock for a 650m is: 745mhz... Max: 830mhz w/o O/C.
    Memory is: 2000mhz...
    Memory usage is also low...

From what I can see here... for some reason your card is working at half of its capability, even when the load is @ 98%...

You mentioned you had problems before with this unit, where they by any chance Video Card related??

You could try a clean install...

If you want before doing the clean install, try rolling back your Nvida Driver Update to 310. Maybe its an unknown issue with this new driver...

    How to rollback:
    Device Manager/Display Adapters/Nvida 650m/Properties/Driver/Roll Back Driver

**Be patient it might not respond while its rolling back... After restart... Check if the problem persists...

    Hope this helps...

thanks! I had one issue right otb where the connection between hdd and motherboard was bad, resulting in one new hdd and one new motherboard. then mhy bluetooth stoped working resulting in a new wifi/bt radio. I have now a problem during cold boot where it takes ages for the screen to start. Talked to dell so they gonna change my motherboard tomorrow. Guess they will change my gpu as well? since they are the same.

I have tried the 307. (something) driver, had the same problem. but I can try, and see if the values change.

    Thanks!

I rolled back my driver to 307.17. This didn't change anything.

Yeah you're pretty much getting a new computer but with the old chassis... ^_^ Since the GPU is soldered to the motherboard, that too will be replaced, yes!
I hope your problem gets fixed soon, so you get too the enjoy game! :)

I myself, Im dying to play it... So, post your FPS and temps when you do mate! :D

Yeah, i talked to dell earlier, and they confirmed that they will replace the motherboard and this also include the gpu, so should solve everything :)
I will post some values, when I got it working :)

    Thanks!

Hi pal. Sorry about your AW, hopefully Dell is replacing your unit so you'll have no problem at all, with med-high settings at a 720p resolution you can get around solid 30fps or even 60fps if you lower specs.

When you mention bluetooth, is there any solution if bluetooth module stops working? My BT worked right with Windows 7, I upgraded to W8 and now I can't manage BT to work at all, it doesn´t even get recognized in windows devices :(

Well for me the solution was replacing the wifi/bt radio. But dell told me to do a fresh re install of windows and all drivers before they did that. When this didn't work they came and replaced it. I have not tried win8 yet, sticking with win7 for now, so can't really tell you what to do. My tip is to use dell's chat service, but you should have some time to kill cos they treat you as you never touched a computer before and tell you to do a lot of stuff that you probably already have done. and then they will tell you to do a clean re install. I guess you already tried re installing the driver and have the driver for win8? since it happend after installing win8 it must be a sw issue so not the same as mine.

Dell was here today and replaced the systemboard. This solved my problem with the slow coldboot, but crysis 3 is still laggy. I'm now in the works of re installing windows and driver, and downloading the game to see if this can help. I also installed the new bios(a11), didn't seem that this had anything to do with it, but at least now I have everything up to date.

One question tho. I bought crysis 3 in a game store, so I have the cd. But when I try to install it, it tells me the program has failed and I have to restart origin:/ this happend last time as well, on 40%. I now tried deleting all the files related to crysis 3, and downloading the whole game to see if that's better. Any idea why this happen and of this can have anything to do with the issues I'm having? Maybe some files that were installed messed up the game? on the other hand crysis 1 I downloaded and it still was not working so..

I'll get back to you when I tried the game again :)

    FWIW, I installed Crysis 3 on my GF's M14x R2, which has:

    • i7-3740qm
    • 16gb 1600mhz RAM
    • GT 650m 2gb
    • Win 8 Pro x64

I have to set all her settings to LOW and turn off AA to get 30-45 fps using FRAPS.

How is everyone else getting such high FPS on medium settings? When I do medium settings, I'm only getting 22 fps or so.
