hi guys, i just sold my m11x r1 and WAS planning on getting an m14x straight away.....but the more i read through your posts the more things i seem to read telling me this laptop doesnt seem very reliable.

dodgy space bars, high temps on gpu and cpu, seriously my m11x r1 has given me no trouble, i just wanted a little extra juice for gaming, but i have real doubts the m14x at the moment seems like a good buy for almost 1200 pounds....is it really this problematic, i wouldnt expect everything to be plain sailing nothing is, but people are saying thermal paste needs changing etc, surley for the money being paid to dell, this shouldnt even be an issue.

any advice would be greatly welcomed because im now finding myself googling other gaming laptops, when all i want is to buy an m14x and know its not going to melt!!!

Its worth it despite its flaws, everyone on these forums know the pros the cons are minimal in comparison.

I love mine, there are a lot of repeated threads about the same issues, which all are minor, it does not get too hot at all, especially with a good cooling pad, it's an excellent laptop, best I have ever owned. I find myself anxious to het home just to play with it some more and I have had it going on three weeks :)

this will give you a LOT more juice than the M11X R1 (I sold mine before getting this one!)

Regarding the thermal paste, unless you plan on overclocking, I don't think it would be an issue.

Space bar, dents, those can all be covered by an in-house tech.

Trust me, you will not regret getting this machine...Crysis on high settings on a LAPTOP? Priceless...
(plugged in, of course, until a fix for that dern power-off issue ;P)

Bottom line is if you were happy with the quality/reliability of your previous Dell/Alienware you'll get the same level here with the M14x. Any time you view a forum you are going to see people seeking help - so more problems. It's no fun to start a thread that says "hey guys, everything is working great!" :)

If you're worried about build quality, etc. and you live in the U.S. - you could look into Sager/Clevo. The 8130 is comparable in size and price although there's no Optimus so you'll trade-off battery life but almost everything else is better.

Dont forget theres always the m11x r3. Not to sound against the m14x but if you jsut want a bit more power than the m11x r3 is quite a bit more powerful with a GT540M and SB i7

I think you are mistaken friend lol

    The M14x is i7-2630 - i7-2820 QM processors.

the M11x R3 uses and ULV processor

The 540m is less powerful that the 555m...

I think you mean, perhaps more power on battery??

I didnt say it was more powerful than the m14x, OP just said he wants something a bit more powerful than his m11x r1, which could also be the r3.

Isn't forums for stuff like this mostly for people having issues? Why would someone come here if they didn't have an issue with their laptop? Well, that and needing help with something.

i did think hard about an r3, but the price difference is not much between them, and i really dont want to be changing this after 12 months, knowing you all have good things to say and that you are pooling your own knowledge and experience to others is really great, thanks. ill be ordering the m14x early next week, i just have to wait for a few paypal widthdrawls to find my bank account then im away.

I had a faulty one, found dealing with dell a complete nightmare. On first unboxing I loved it. When I found it wasnt working correctly I was like a wounded pigeon.
Been pining for my replacement for a week. Cant wait. No laptops perfect. But for size, looks and performance....................it does take some beating.

Screen could be better but even thats not bad, not great just average.

As you mention £1200 I guess you must be UK. Make sure you use the 10% discount code floating about and also quidco/top cash back for another 7% discount

^^^ and make SURE that you don't buy a system from the site...it is way much cheaper to call them and haggle around with a sales rep..you'll be amazed at the discounts a sales rep throws at you after he senses a interested customer...and while you are at it, make sure you ask him to throw in his EPP discount and NBD shipping.

Good luck with the system mate.
