does anybody have experience with the portable hard drives??
i want one that has usb 3.0 and is powered by usb so i dont have to plug it in.

is western digital better than seagate or is it basically same different toilet?

i have used both the WD a good amount and own a seagate.. it depends on capacity that u need. I got the 1.5TB seagate and love it. they both perform very very similar.. cant tell the difference in real world usage. but keep in mind..... The WD with 1TB of space is smaller then my seagate with 1.5TB :) but it was only 40 dollars more for 1.5TB rather then 1. :)

Dang, staples just had a good deal on 1TB WD portable hard drives.

I would say stick with WD. I used to be a huge seagate fan, but in recent years I won't buy them thanks to the large amount of failures.

When I put my SSD in my laptop I took the hard drive out and put it into a USB 3.0 case I bought for $20. It's been amazing great speeds

Well for portable hdd I would suggest go with either WD or seagate, both are reputable brands and basically own the market. I have had a 60GB seagate that has lasted now for 4 years, so there tough buggers.

As for usb 3.0 as long as your enclosure supports it, just pop in your Sata drive and your off to go.
