My sounds randomly stops working on my computer but when this happens the speakers randomly pop.

So when I try to listen to music nothing plays but I get random pops.

I used to think was a windows 8 problem but I have since rolled back thinking that would solve the issue but it is still present in windows 7.

I have had the motherboard replaced twice and this never happened with the original motherboard or the first replacement.

    Anyone else experience this?

Which BIOS version are you running?

Also, have you tried reinstalling the audio driver?

Running A11, happened with A10 as well though in win 8.

I haven't reinstalled the audio driver because I restored an image I had customized months ago where everything was working perfectly so I doubt it is the driver but I will reinstall it tomorrow and observe.

Well, after clean installing windows 8 and keeping vlc player for audio and video there were no problems. Out of the blue today my audio stopped working, it is absent in device manager. I tried rebooting and reinstalling the driver several times and no audio at all ;(

Probably time for a new motherboard again before this warranty runs out.

U can try to disable microphone array.
Remove battery and leave it for one minute.
Then try to power on your laptop.

    Try this

Completely remove the Audio driver and let windows install the generic one, then check your playback devices and make sure speakers are set to default.

Have you tried a power drain? (Remove the battery and AC adapter, press and hold the power button for 30-45 seconds then reconnect and try to turn it on)

Go to your BIOS, press F9 to load BIOS defaults and then F10 to save changes and exit.

Download and install the Audio Driver

OP- I had this problem and it was triggered by skype. Simply reinstalling my sound card drivers got rid of the problem. Hope this helps.

I can also confirm that Skype is one of those programs that would cause my speakers to "pop" and then my mic/sound stops working altogether and I have to reset my computer several times for it to start working again. Usually I would restart and the sound works and ~2-3 minutes later it would just stop working. Another game this happens to is SC2, it would work for say a mission or two, then all of a sudden I realize the sound stops working. Alienware-L_Porras I have tried removing the sound driver completely and reinstalling it and going to my bios and setting everything to default and it still happens. The problem is that it is not a very consistant problem (say a 30-40% chance it will screw up). I have completecare warranty as well but I don't know the direct number to call and if this is a big enough issue. Any other suggestions?

How are you reinstalling them? Through removing the drivers as a program or through the device manager? I did the device manager method and it hasn't happened since.

Might be worth checking windows audio settings. If your right click on speakers and properties, there will be an option to change the multi sampling rate, might be worth dropping it to 16bit 44100khz see if that helps? also not allow exclusive access to the device and disable 'audio enhancements' which doesnt affect the soundblaster affects anyways.

I had the same issue on my R4, usually when a sound plays or skype starts a video/audio call (not all the time) it would pop and either have no sound or 'tinny sound with pops'. A restart usually fixes it for me, but that is slightly annoying at times.

Thanks for the tips guys, I'll try both suggestions when I get off work and work with it for a few days to see if the problem persists.
