just recently placed my order and i just cant wait.

im in a dilemma however. id like to pretty much keep whatever i have on my current dying, just recently reflowed and now rejuvinated hp laptop (dv6736nr) and just have it migrated to my m14x.

ive just thought of making a backup of the current system using acronis and do a restore on the m14x.

has anyone tried this and is this process viable?

my current system is on a windows 7 ultimate by the way.

    thanks in advance.

The most simple, sure-fire way of moving your data would be to use an external hard drive case. I'm not sure what you mean about using acronis to back up the current system and restore onto the m14x (I'm not familiar with acronis), but you don't want to try and restore an OS image from another computer onto the m14x.

+1 for getting an external HD enclosure. It will allow you to move any files you want from your old machine without cluttering up your m14x. I have an enclosure for backing up all my data to or for trying to recover data from friends Hard drives. The cloning software won't work because there would be an incombatibility in drivers and such, not sure it would even start properly. Your better off saving yourself a headache and buying the HD enclosure for like $20 at most for a cheap one. ;)

i think acronis has a feature where you can restore a system to a different system:

    "Greater Upgrade Possibilities
Take your Acronis experience to the next level with our special Plus Pack add-on. This gives you advanced features, such as dynamic-disk support and Universal Restore, which lets you recover your entire system on a computer with a completely different architecture."

am not only talking about DATA but the whole system disk along with the data on it.

    wonder if this will work.
