was having problems with alienfx starting on DISABLED MODE everytime i boot up. it tells me to "enable events monitoring" or something to that effect. cant find where to do this and decided to call TECH SUPPORT.

called TECH SUPPORT AND OF COURSE, Kareem (tech guy) went gung-ho and uninstalled command center which was version 2.6.14.0, deleted a couple of files from the program file directory and regedit. then installed command center 2.6.8.0 which did not solve the issue! further Kareem obviously frustrated, honestly said he did not know what the problem was and just asked why id want the alienfx enable anyway! really? seriously? i just told him for a $1400 laptop id like everything to work as it should.

long story short i was able to figure out how to correct the problem with Kareem still on the other line.

my question is, is there anyway that i could get back the newer version of command center, 2.6.14.0 that my laptop came in with?

ive tried dell's download website but its the 2.6.8.0 that is posted.

    thanks.

I would start by checking the disc's that came with the laptop, they should have everything on it that came with the laptop.

Did you make the alienrespawn image disc? if yes, just pop it in, reboot and restore your laptop.

else restore your laptop from HDD factory image using alien respawn. I guess in the restore menu, you get an option to go back to a certain checkpoint. Try looking for a checkpoint before the day you installed the new version. ( by the way same can also be done through windows restore though i am not sure about its success rate)

If restore doesnt work, i guess only option you have is to go for a full factory reset which will delete everything on your C: and set your machine back to factory setting.

I am afraid this is the only solution that i can see so far, unless somebody has the setup file of the older version which is very unlikely.

I guess i read it somewhere on a post here that you should not install the comman center that came with DVD as it would most likely corrupt the keyboard tech. so I dont think that's a viable option

No, DO NOT use the one from the Resource Disc, unless you want to corrupt the keyboard, here follow this Link to the DELLChrisM's thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m15x/502744-dell-announcement-m15x-owners-do-not-use-command-center-your-resource-dvd.html#post6507793, although this one is for the M15x users, but I'm pretty sure that there's a thread on Dell Community website which I cant find it now. I'll update if I can find it again. But DO NOT use the CC from the Resource DVD.

Anyway, there's a way to get the original version back, but that you have to do a factory image restore using the AlienRespawn to restore back to the point when you receive the laptop.

    as an update,

after getting back the NEWER COMMAND CENTER VERSION (2.6.14.0) back, i noticed OSD was not working.

so downloaded and re-installed OSD software and now its working. ODD THING though is that NOW, when i right-click on the command center i now have the option to enable or disable ALIENWARE ALIENFX EVENTS!

im not sure if its from installing the OSD again, or from the ALIENFX themes that i downloaded or after RESTORING the newer version of the command center.

which was not THERE, prior to me having problems with the command center.

wished i took a screen capture but when the command center acted up, it informed me that the command center is not monitoring alienfx events and for me to ENABLE monitoring, which i could not find, hence the TECH SUPPORT call.

and now, it HAS MAGICALLY APPEARED!
