I'm not that technical about benchmarking or anything, but I wanted to check my SSD performance after finishing windows install and getting all current windows updates completed. I ran AS SSD Benchmark and this is what I got:

    My HWiNFO64 shows this:

    Clearing showin Sata-3 at 6 Gb/s.

And, finally, my Windows Experience Score also shows the hard drive performance:

I was very happily surprised to see this kind of performance after having seen so much documentation that the m14x Bios was limiting the primary disk to Sata-II.

Has anyone else observed this to date? Did I just luck out?

So is it worth it to fork out 50 extra bucks for an elmcrest ssd? I was gonna purchase it, but i heard that it wasnt taking advantage of the sata III 6 gb/s, so the read and write speeds were that of the older series of intel ssd's.

@Kinegos - did you get a good deal on your Sata 3 SSD? I have a sata 2 SSD and pondering upgrading.

@Lancer - I paid $215 for it at my local micro center and I felt that was a good value.

I think you either got extremely lucky or Alienware started incompletely addressing this problem somehow. I got mine delivered 3 days ago, and I have been testing it with my OCZ 3 and OWC Extreme Pro 6G, and I only get SATA 2 speeds. So disappointing....

Try removing the Intel Rapid Storage Technology software. That addressed the problems i was having with my SSD. I'm using an OCZ Vertex 2 with the latest firmware.

Brand-new M14x owner here. I'm getting 6Gb/s speeds with my 64GB Crucial - RST is installed.

All M14x models have a 555M. The WEI rating is probably reflecting the Intel GPU. No need to worry about it. WEI is pretty meaningless.
