hey ladies and gents i decided to have some fun with crysis 2 and see what kind of numbers i would be geting in game at 1080p all settings on med(very high). first i started at 700mhz for the core and 1080mhz for the memory and a side note the memory overclock makes a big difference in my fps up to +4, im guessing because of the higher res. so with the clocks set at the above i was pushing an ave of 27 fps maybe a lil more and im using almost 2gb of vid memory during the really heavy action usually stayed around 1700mb to 1800mb. i than set the core clock to 770mhz and the ave fps jumped up to around 32 fps to 36 fps. very impressive might i add and keep in mind this is all with dx 11 enabled and high res textures enabled! yes i think im in love :) and back on track lol, with the clock at 770mhz and memory at 1080mhz the memory usage maxed out at around 2100mb to 2200mb. ill be honest i thought that by getting a 3gb laptop gpu you could consider me gulable haha but i stand corrected!

Eh. I'm not convinced until I see similar specs with the 1.5GB card having markedly lower frame rates.

I get around 35-45 on the 1.5gb gt555m, overclocked at 740 core, and 1000 memory clock, on the advanced setting at 1600x900 resolution. I know that the 3gb is better than the 1.5 gb, but the marginal increase in performance wasn't worth it for me.

i agree it wont be much of a difference on lower res maybe 3fps or more at most but i have a 1080p monitor so it gave me an excuse lol

Also that is is Crysis, you showed in the YouTube video, you said Crysis 2. And what the above poster said is true, not a lot of intense fighting. Like I know that I can play Crysis 2 maxed out on Ultra in some levels and not in others.

right i just showed it as an example so you can see the memory being used not the fps and what game it is and isn't is not the point lol

I don't think you get the point.....yes it is possible to break 1.5 gigs used in a game, you do it by getting an older game and maxing out the AA. If you tried to do this on a more modern game you'd have like 8 FPS because the actual 555m GPU chip couldn't handle it not because of lack of ram. The whole point is that to break the 1.5 gigs of vram you'd need so much AA that it would bog the 555m chip to the point of being unplayable thus negating the point of 3 gigs of ram.

I also hate to burst your bubble, but whats the point of breaking the 1.5 GB limit if the game is going to run at 8FPS....

If you really need that much power and want to run game at 1080P with Full AA and Ultra, get a desktop.

I took this around 5 days ago

EDIT: It says 1751mb in case the picture is too small

    Heres an enlarged one

    http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/2176/crysis64201107311417459.png

I typically use 1500mb or more of VRAM in the original Crysis and Warhead, I dont play Crysis 2. I always get above 30fps maxed with an overclock of 765/1080. Its not 3GB, but I use almost 2GB at some points. Just thought Id contribute to the thread

EDIT2: I also have about 12-13 more screenshots if youd like to see

Oh yea? I've got a shot of me playing Crysis using 3751mb of vram and I only have a 1.5 gig card...EXPLAIN THAT MR SMARTY!!!!

lol j/k j/k <3 No but really refer to my previous post. You can't break 1.5 gigs of vram on a MODERN game and still have playable frame rates with the 555m chip.

I'd call Crysis 2 a pretty modern game.

Also, are you guys sure that's not the system ram?

It is Crysis 1. I dont know what you mean. You just said using over 1.5gb of VRAM would mean 8fps but im just showing me getting 43 lol

Yea, it's a 4 year old game. When that game came out it was almost impossible to play maxed out. The 555m is better than most higher end GPU's in 2007 so it should have no problem running it that's why you can crank the AA up all the way and get it to use that much ram and keep a decent FPS. Try to run the same settings in Crysis 2 and see what the FPS is while using that much vram.

I guess, I just find Crysis 1's and Warheads graphics muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch better than Crysis 2's (even with DX11 and the patch)

And of course crysis runs better. Also did a test w/o screenshots, I was using 1648mb of ram in Metro 2033 although only getting 22fps :\

I like crysis 1 better also :p But you kinda see what I'm talking about? 1.5 is almost the sweet spot for vram on the 555m because at that point the FPS start to become questionably playable IMO. At least that's my opinon ;)
