Hi there. I purchased my laptop 2 days ago and everything was running great. So far I've only installed world of warcraft, but as expected it run at full (60) fps with all graphics set to ultra.

I got in from work this evening and decided to play for a bit when I instantly noticed I was only getting 30fps.

I haven't changed any settings for this to happen, so I'm not exactly sure what I can do to solve it; hence why I've posted here.

I'd really appreciated some help as you guys know a lot more then I do.

    Thank you very much.

Make sure that World of Warcraft is using your NVIDIA 650M and not the Intel HD 4000. When I play Eve Online, I can go to the game's 'options' screen and tell which video card the game is using. Maybe there is a similar option/menu in WoW to tell which GPU is being used?

Unfortunately there isn't an option for this. Is there any other way I can check?

It seems that the reason for the really low FPS is because my laptop wasn't plugged in to the mains :S

But I'm still only getting 40fps in a busy environment on WoW. Do you think that's the best I can expect?

    Great answer +1rep :)

The M14x R2 works with Nvidia Optimus, which will, depending on preferences, switch from the discrete to the integrated graphics card and this could be causing the drops on the FPS. Here's an article with more information about this tool and how to use it.

Presuming that means vertical sync (again, sorry for being a noob). I've just turned this off as you've suggested. I'm not sure exactly what it does, but reading the little description underneath it in the nVidia control panel it seems like a useful tool lol.

Make sure that you use this settings for the games so that they run on the nVidia.
