    I just got my m14x r2 today.

I plugged in HDMI from my notebook to my TV and it's only using the Intel card.

When I view the nvidia control panel, under multiple displays where I can put checkboxes next to either laptop display or tv, it only shows Intel, it doesn't give me the option to select nvidia as the output source.

any ideas why this is? using 296.16 driver that came with it.

I tried with and without the power plugged in, didnt make a difference. See attached screenshot for what I see. My understanding is that I should see both intel and nvidia here.

Maybe you need to set what ever program you are using to use the nvidia. Are you trying to watch a movie? I think people call it white listing the program...

I'm familiar with optimus as I have it in my other Latitude notebook. Even when I try a game and I have specified for the .exe to use nvidia, it's not kicking in.

Ok, I got it working, I picked the wrong exe file. I have the optimus state viewer and it shows 'on' now.

What I'm curious of is why it doesn't show nvidia as an option in the screenshot provided?

see the screenshot in this thread for reference, this is why I assumed I should see both:

I also have another question and hoping I could get some help.

When I use HDMI to my TV and play youtube hd videos through IE or Chrome using optimus or not, the videos are very blocky. Is there a fix for this?

I think if you go to set PhysX configuration and set that to nvidia card instead of auto select it should use the card for your hdmi

Changing the phyx bit didn't make a difference.

I have an Apple TV and I use AirPlay to stream HD trailers from YouTube and the quality is flawless.

Using HDMI out directly to my TV just like I do with my Apple TV results in a lot of blocky pictures with Youtube HD in full screen.

    Not sure why this is!

Ok, so if I tell the NVIDIA control panel to use NVIDIA for Internet Explorer and I watch a 1080p youtube hd video, it looks great.

If I have it running off the default Intel the video quality is very blocky. My guess is there is some driver issue with the Intel card, I can't imagine this card is not capable of outputting 1080p youtube!

Flawless is a point of view mate.

Test with a blu-ray, not Youtube. HD TV's are not meant to play online video files in 1080p they're designed to play movies and T.V. in 1080i.
