Hi all just curious , would the battery life on the r2 with the sandy bridge i5 option be the same battery life as the r1 ?
    I've heard from r2 owners that they get around 1-2 hours better battery life than r1 . (r2 = ~5-6h , r1 = 3-4h) So what would the battery life be like for a r2 with an i5 ? I plan to buy a m14x soon .
    Thanks !

The i5 CPU run lighter thus consuming less power than the i7 counterpart, the reason the R2 owners got a better battery life is because of the new Ivy Bridge CPU consume around 20%-30% less power than the Sandy Bridge counterpart, nevertheless, i5 R2 will consume even less, Since NVIDIA state that the NV GT650M NVIDIA will also consume less power thus making it run both cooler and less power consumption. However this is just a theory.

There is also a user who has post his/her finding, though the CPU is i7 IVB, but it should give you the idea: Personal battery findings - very good!

Thanks for your response . It helps a lot .
But why would it have better battery life if optimus is on ? Correct me if I'm wrong , but I thought optimus completely turns off the gpu , thus making the gpu not consume any power . So then wouldn't the i5 on the r1 and r2 be the same ?

Optimus is always on , so you can swap gpu , usually it will detect automatically , if you open any programs that require high 3D , it will use Nvidia GPU , normally it will run with IGP HD4000 to save battery life. Since you have m11x , you may try open Nvidia CP -> Manage 3D Setting -> Preferred GPU - Auto Select/IGPU/High Performance Nvidia GPU.

    As CGSDR mentioned :

Yea I'm aware of how optimus works .
So would a r1 with an i5 have the same battery life as a r2 with an i5 ? (obvs not when playing 3D games , but just normal work/web surfing)

    Probably the same , since r1 , r2 i5 use HD3000.
