    Hey all.
I just ordered a m14x a few days back from dell to replace my m17x, and opted for the $200 gift card from the educational promotion. My plan is to remove the ODD and replace it with the existing HDD that is comes with, and spend the gift card on an SSD. So I've been looking the last few days and decided of the, somewhat limited, selection at dell.com I was going to buy an OCZ.

I decided on a particular model, VTX3-25SAT3-240G, which yesterday was $229.99, is now today $469.00!!!!

I'm hoping a Dell tech can chime in if they have any info, or has OCZ just randomly stuck it to Dell. You can get this same SSD from newegg for $180 after a $20 rebate, what's this nonsense?

And can someone explain why the AGT3-25SAT3-240G is more expensive than the AGT4-25SAT3-256G!?! I see that the 4 series is slower than the 3 (which is odd) but wouldn't you think the newer model would be more expensive?

Update (07-05-12): The m14x came in!!!

Yea....might be a typo, it happens sometimes, wait a few days, or ask the online chat at Dell, sometimes they can shed some light on this.

I hope it's a typo. Haha, and I did indeed chat with online support. In a nutshell, the conversation when like this:
Me: "Why is the price so high on this SSD?"
Dell: "Do you mean this SSD?"
    Me: "Yes."
Dell: "Do you have any other questions?"
Me: "Um...no, just wondering whats with the price jump."
Dell: "Promotions change from time to time"
    Me: "Ok, well thanks"

Promotions change? Since when is taking a product from a normal sales price (comparing to other sellers) and jumping it back up to it's price a year ago a promotion!?! XD

Very cool, thank you. I'll wait until the gift cards come in, maybe it is just a typo.

So the m14x came in, and I love it! However, I can already tell I'm going to have to get used to a lower rez screen again. My m17x has a 1900x1200 rez, and between that and my ipad 3rd gen the 1600x900 looks like a blocky mess, XD. I'm very glad I spent the extra cash for the higher rez screen on the m14x. I won't be finalizing any photoshop or premiere projects on the 14" screen, but I've got a 1900x1080 monitor I can plug into for details.

What I'm not going to miss is the weight and battery life of the m17x. I can pick up and move around this m14x with one hand. That might not be a big deal for some m17x or m18x owners, but I'm a t4 paraplegic with no core function so it's a huge deal.

Now I just need those Dell GC's to come in so I can purchase an SSD and really get rolling!

Good to heard that , as personal advise don't go for OCZ SSD , I've tested Vertex 3 & Vertex 4 on m14xR2 both of em has compatible issue randomly unable to detect in bios. I'm using Crucial M4 & used Samsung 830 both of em are really good drive 0 issue and fast boot up speed.

I've heard both sides, and I'd love to go with an Intel drive. My m17x has a 80g 320 and I've never had an issue. The problem at this point is Dell doesn't have anything at the right price, :(. I want to grab something around 240-256gb. The 80gb intel drive just isn't big enough for the software I use the most, and the games that I may or may not play a lot but would like them to benefit from the SSD. I've heard good things about the OCZ Octane, compared to other OCZ products anyway. Dell just has an extremely limited, extremely high priced selection. And I don't think the GC's that are coming are "resellable".

Maybe I could just get a 120 until the wife lets me drop some more cash on a larger SSD in a few months. I've been reading that certain BIOS's are having SATA 3 issues anyway. The SATA 2 with the intel 320 is pretty fast for me, anyone have any comments on the real world, perceivable difference between SATA 2 and SATA 3 concerning application launching and games?

You can find 256GB SSD around $200 & below. here is the link - Notebook and Tech Bargains

    I got my M4 512Gb for $350.

Its like 50sec vs 25sec load time , boot time on SATA 2 around 20~30sec++ , SATA 3 only use 8~15sec.

There is a lot real world, perceivable difference between SATA 2 and SATA 3 out there on youtube , as personal experience everything is twice as faster , over speed
