So I got a m14x for christmas and a week later the windows update decide's to screw over my hard drive. The dell rep told me it must have installed something the wrong way, so i had to restore windows and lose all my documents and game saves. So a couple days later I put it in sleep mode ane woke the next morning and it beeps seven times and wouldn't come on. so I call dell and they said the motherboard is bad and they sent a techie the next day with a new board.Four days later it beeps seven times again. So i call dellfor a third time and ask for a refund, instead the want me to send it to their repair center in TEXAS to see whats wrong with it.They dont offer refunds because it was bought in november but I only used it for 2 weeks and i had 3 problems all ready.Even the rep that came to fix it said dell sucks and he only works there for the money.

There's a term where if the laptop age but Not used 31 days from the day of purchase, you can get your money back, when you agree to buy the laptop that refund term was written within that agreement, this is why before you make any purchase you should read them carefully, now that the laptop is more than 31 days old, sure they will not agree to refund but they'll either repair or replace for you.

For restoring Windows, there's a way where you can avoid losing all of your files by install over the previous windows, then all of your file that is on the previous Windows will be save into a folder called "Windows.Old". Not all laptop is perfect (but it doesnt mean all laptop are crap too), most will encounter problem, most wont, as for my laptop, the only unexpected problem I had is a HDD failure, other thing are cause by my careless usage. Try to get them to replace your laptop because it is in the terms and conditions state that as long as your laptop still under warranty then you will be able to either repair or replace faulty parts (at least that what NZ's T&C state, so not sure for your area though).

Canada 30 day to return with no re-stocking fee, California 21 days. If your state does not have a law on returning items its 15 days.

    Hope that helps.

cgsdr, when i do a windows restore it doesnt give me an option for full wipe...it says something about taking my files to the windows.old folder and thats all i can choose, no partition wipe/format option anywhere...am i missing something?

Oh, you mean Windows Restore? Oops I think I made a mistake here, my bad  . I thought it is a reinstallation of Windows. Yeah Windows restore will sometime delete the files depending on when or which date you choose to restore from. But for a Windows reinstallation, it is just like you install a new Windows except for chose to install over the old version of it by clicking the primary partition and click Next to install <- that how to overwritten the old windows and retain all of your Users folder and all of the Program Files folder into Windows.Old.

    yes, that is correct.
thanks, but i was wondering if there is another option that i CAN delete all the stuff. its a new laptop so i didnt have anything on it anyways...

im just wondering if i have old drivers sticking to windows when i try and wipe...gt555m card problems, it only shows intel hd and standard vga (updating driver on standard vga to nvidia specific by going to "have disc" and choosing the "nvam.inf" file then gt555m pops up like 5 or more times, all of them fail to install because windows says they are not compatable with this type of windows...even though i downloaded specifically for 7-64bit.) and nvidia installation always fails because of failed to detect compatable hardware...even though it shows up in my bios just fine.
sorry, dont mean to thread jack...

back on topic, yes i would agree that this is a crappy machine so far...and far worse customer service...atleast you got your motherboard replaced asap, they keep pushing mine because of back orders. id be glad to send it to a texas repair because i live near dallas and i could probably just drive it there.
