I know the m14x has 2 video cards.

There is an optional Intel graphics adapter upgrade in the windows update.

There is the pop up for new Nvidia drivers.

Will installing/upgrading these screw up the Optimus automatic drivers?

I know on my m11x R1, if I upgraded either of them, I'd lose the ability to switch between them until both were uninstalled and then I reinstalled the Dell driver.

Keep both Intel and Nvidia drivers up to date, this should not affect Optimus

OK. What would affect optimus drivers? Or what would I have to do if they get screwed up?

Some people had serious issues like massive fps drops and similar stuff while updating the drivers directly, it is
recommendend to use the latest drivers from the Dell website, they're not the newest out here, but verified by Dell to run smoothly on your system.

I would recommend you to stay with the DELL drivers on this machine for the optimus to work better.
