Hey guys, have had my m14x for 3 months, today i was on the internet and all of the sudden the computer shut off and would not turn on whatsoever. When i plug in my ac adapter (it normally has a blue tip) the led turns off on the charger itself and the computer will not turn on, tried booting from battery and it will not start. tried taking out the battery and using only AC power but again, the led ring on the charger goes out the second i push it into the computer, What has happened to my new computer!!?!?. I beleive i smell a slight burning smell from the area where the RAM is. any opinions are greatly appreciate.

You mentioned this was a "new" computer...meaning it is still under warranty correct? If so, contact Alienware for a diagnostic and they will take care of you and make sure your laptop gets fixed. Their warranty service is pretty outstanding once you get past the annoying Indian phone reps.

The m14x in general isnt even a year old, so it should still be under warranty. Unless you voided it somehow.

I bought this computer from my friend who bought it on craigslist. I couldn't have the warranty transferred to my name which is why I'm trying to figure this out myself

And it wont turn on on battery? Try opening it up and reseating the battery cable, and then turning it on on battery only. If youre lucky it could just be the AC adapter and would just have to buy a new one

3 Month old mean, you 100% can get a replacement back as what the 1 year warranty is for, by the explanation of what you said, I think there maybe a huge power surge into the laptop where it would fried every electronic device if you dont have a surge protection on the power plug to the power brick of the laptop.

Do you have any spare notebook RAM laying around? Try swapping it in. I remember people used to have problems where if one ram stick wasnt working the machine wouldnt turn on. You also said you smell a burning scent from that area, so it would be an easy test. If you dont have any, maybe you could pick up a couple of 1GB sticks for cheap on newegg. Probably cost you 15 bucks
