Hey Guys,
I am a little confused. I just ordered the m14x with a 32gig ssd drive. I read here that it comes with a 64gig drive and that is not big enough. I never even had an option for a 64gig.
All I want it for is to run the OS. Will it be big enough? Can I put a bigger SSD drive in?

Bump
I plan on deleting the recovery partition and moving the boot files to the c drive. Is that all I have to do to have enough space? If I am only starting with 32gig will they even have the OS on the ssd?
I have read through several ssd threads so I did do the research. I am just still new to this so I am sorry if this is a stupid question. -
don't feel bad i had the same question about my m14x. The 32g ssd is a caching drive setup meaning that its designed to work like a very very large cache for you files that you access on a regular basis. It is not a boot drive like the 64g ssd option they used to have. This does not mean that you can't set it up to be a boot drive but i have had several people mention that 32g might be a bit tight for windows 7 with page filing and temp files etc... If you want to set it up this way you will have format it when you receive the computer and go through the process of setting it up as a second drive.

That sucks!! Why would they remove the option for the 64gig one? That makes it useless for what I wanted it for!
I have heard mention of being able to put a larger ssd drive in. How would I do that? Is it difficult for someone new to this kind of thing?
All I want it the OS and firefox on the ssd. I think I read that some of the files from the OS can be saved on the HDD. -
So what is the final word, if I want just the OS and firefox on the ssd will 32gig be enough? Is this the proper type of ssd drive to use for this? Would I be better off just keeping a game on there?

Enough , if you don't download anything else.
I use mine to store like 300+ episode of anime lol,
other side , 32gb mmc to store photos, 32gb msata a bit useless...even a usb drive /mmc flash drive has 32gb.... -
Some reviews online compare a cached setup like the one you have against a pure ssd and a high performance hdd. Long story short, the cached setup performs almost as well as a pure ssd, minus the time it takes to 'learn' the files you use most. Do your research and you'll see that you can even program how the ssd transfers data to the hdd in order to maximize speed or data integrity. Fwiw, I'd try the cached setup as is for a while before you load windows on it. You probably won't be disappointed.

Still slower then normal SSD , experienced , that's why I use it as storage.

Yah I think I am going to try it as is for a while. I still want to wipe it clean first then re-load it all myself, as long as it comes with the Alienware discs as well as the boot disc. Get rid of some of the crap. Ill just put firefox and a game on the ssd and buy a bigger one down the road.

This is how you wipe the computer and get the drivers in the correct order.

I currently have the M14x R1 with a 128GB Sata3 SSD, and the new Cache Method with the 32gb is just as fast. Leave it as-is
-
Thanks for the help everyone. I will just leave it as is for now. Bump up the ssd some other time.

Ok I have my laptop. I can't find the SSD drive. I have the 500gig C: drive and should have a 32gig mstat. Where should I be looking?
