So I decided to sell my m11r2 in favor of the m14. A couple of questions, the specific model that's included in the deal only comes as is. I'm looking to increase in performance but nothing unnecessary. What exactly is the difference between the 1.5 and 3gb555m? Would that processor be sufficient?

Will it be a vast improvement over the i7-640UM? What about the 555m?

    Great, thanks for the responses.

Just to be clear, there isn't much of a difference between 1.5 555m and 3gb555m?

3gb 555m is over kill. There are a lot of posts on this forum about this. Basically no games at the moment will ever utilize the 3gb so you should be all set with the 1.5gb. Thats what I've got in mine!

definitly take an I7 processor. The basic one is more than enough. It's already a quad core. Even if you buy a much more expensive processor, your fps will be limited by your graphic card at this point (the 555m).

The upgrade from 1.5 to 3gb graphic card is not worth it. The gain is very minimal. You would be better with more system ram, better headset, or a ssd (depending on how you use your computer).

Thanks for the input, so I've decided to pull the trigger. My only concern, is the warranty on the promotional package. Its a "1 Year Student Care Plan, DMLP". Would i still be able to contact alienware support for warranties/exchanges?

Any ideas on what exactly this student care entails?

I'd not go with the additional RAM, do it yourself later on if you find your m14x sluggish, purely because AW overprices their RAM upgrade.

I'd also spring for the Killer network card because I've heard the stock card is terrible, especially if you want to game online over wifi.
