    Hello everyone,
im thinking about buying either intel 520 180 gigs (370) or samsung 830 256 gigs (410) ... <<< canadian stores prices
to me the gigs difference is not that big of a deal...
also i can see that they are both the top when it comes to fast stable SSDs...
im just leaning more towards the intel one for two reasons... sandforce and 5y warranty...

im just wondering if anyone tried intel 520 and do you know how stable it is with the m14x...
ive seen many people here reporting good results for samsung 830...

also... boot up time... im all confused... whats most important... random speed or max IOPS or seq speed...

    Thanks alot...

Warranty, warranty, warranty; as a result, go Intel. Can't comment entirely on the 520 series, but have been through G2 and G3 drives of theirs with nothing short of wonderful things to say.

Well I don't know how the intel 520 works in the m14x, but it's intel so I trust it the most out of all companies. Also, there's benchmarks and the Intel 520 is the fastest SSD on the market right now.

+1 i'm going to choose between these to too so any help welcome. I'd go for the 520 but I've read about problems with stability at 6GB/s with intel and with 830 people are saying it's stable.

I have the samsung 830 and it runs like a dream. The read/write times may be faster on the intel (not by much though). Basically, I'd go with whatever drive you can get cheaper, as both are well made and have big companies to support them. I got my 128gb samsung 830 for $200 + batman arkham city download code.

I have an intel 320 and it's wonderful except I have rare boot issues where it hangs on the Windows logo I simply turn my computer on and off then it works. This problem appears to happen randomly there was a huge survey thread about it awhile ago, no real pattern to can happen to any SSD or may not happen.

I'm not sure what affects boot time but heres a benchmark of intel 520 vs Samsung 830 and other drives.

Real-World Performance: Windows And Mac Boot Times : Intel SSD 520 Review: Taking Back The High-End With SandForce

The lastest BIOS A08 limits the m14x to run at SATAII speeds this I believe is to try to increase stability with booting for people with SSD issues, it improved mine. To use SATAIII you need to use an older BIOS.

Found only this thread because search here doesn't really work. http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m14x/633710-survey-m14x-owners-ssds-forum-needs-you.html (only been reading this forum for m14x ssd and formed my opinions here) Maybe intel is stable to with some issues but for the 830 I haven't read for instability. I'd really like to go for the 520 intel one if somebody proves it's stable(for the reasons others mentioned above) .(all the time speaking 6GB/s because with A8 and SATA II it seams the problem is solved)

Boot up time on the 830 is anywhere from 5-10 seconds. It was much faster before I installed SWTOR and other software, but still very fast.

    Thanks
