Is this an option in place of an i5-3210?

Yes, I have switched an i5 3210 for a 3720 with no issue.

You can even put in an 3920XM / 3940XM in it. But I totally recommend a very cool room and especially a cooling pad...

Thanks Juliant, but considering I can't find a 3920xm OEM for sale anywhere but China, Taiwan or from some guy that has lousy communication and slow shipping on Ebay I don't think that'll be a problem. Really wanted to pick one up for the M18 I bought but no luck. Plan was to put the 3920 in the 18 and the 3720 out of the 18 into the 14.

As far as I know and bought several times from, Shirley is one of the good rep on ebay who sells those kind of CPU's. You can also PM Mr. Fox, I think he got his from Dell, you can ask his advice. I am sure he may be able to give you a positive answer.

Mr. Fox got his from slow shipping guy over on ebay. I would have assumed that Shirley would have popped up in the search I did on ebay if they had any available. I'll keep looking, something will show up sooner or later. hahaha

Not necessarily. You can just write to Shirley and you will get a quotation within no time. You may have to bargain at first as the rate could be a bit high. I got my last 2960XM from Shirley and I paid extra for quick shipment service. Otherwise I would have got it in about 10 days...

Can someone clarify for a non-Alienware owner who is thinking about an M14x R2 - is it easy to remove the CPU and switch in another one? As in, is the socket holding the CPU intended for easy switching?

In the real world, what can one put into an M14 without pushing it to overheating? Uses would be video editing, photo editing, some gaming.

    Thanks!
