Has anyone else seen this with the R2? running Prime95 it only boosts up to 3.0Ghz or 3.1 if I'm lucky - never 3.3.

Dell support have said that its not guaranteed to boost to 3.3 anyway!?

I paid for the upgrade to get a cpu that boosts to 3.3Ghz, I expect it to do so!

It cannot boost to 3.3Ghz when all 4 cores are under full load like in prime... you should read the CPU speccs before blaming anyone.

    1 core = 3.3Ghz
    2 cores = 3.2Ghz
    4 cores = 3.1Ghz

Thats how Turbo Boost works with this CPU.

And about Dell support hotline... they are no IT-Specialist and know not much about the hardware when you ask for such specific things. Its better to ask here first before you try the hotline which is mainly consisting of people educated for calming people down and / or sale related issues.

Ok, I stand corrected - I wasn't aware it was core dependent. btw, i did read the specs, but it didn't detail the core split down as you have done. Dell could also make it a bit clearer on their website as well, it simply says 'boost to 3.3Ghz'.

A lil bit of google search researching will give you information about the 3610QM info compared to making a thread and typing etc...

"The Intel Core i7-3610QM is a fast quad-core processor for laptops based on the Ivy Bridge architecture. Due to Hyperthreading, the four cores can handle up to eight threads in parallel leading to better utilization of the CPU. Each core offers a base speed of 2.3 GHz but can dynamically increase clock rates with Turbo Boost up to 3.1 GHz (for 4 active cores), 3.2 GHz (for 2 active cores) and 3.3 GHz (for 1 active core)."

F.Y.I., while Turbo Boost can, and will, reach the maximum of 3.3GHz with all four cores in operation, this is usually only under the best of thermal circumstances.

My i7-3720QM reaches 3.4GHz with all four cores at full blast (a Cinebench R11.5 run) and attains a fantastic score doing so - but it also breeches 90 degrees celsius.

What you need to be aware of is that Turbo Boost advertises the maximum attainable bin that the processor can boost itself to automatically as set internally by Intel, but this is not a guaranteed speed. TurboBoost analyzes thermal and power conditions in real time.
Most of the time, however, it can and will actually reach the maximum advertised speed. But in common conditions, expect 3.1GHz on yours.

    I have a 3610qm and can confirm I get 3.1GHz on 4 cores. 3.3 would be nice though :D
