cuz for normal laptops, it is possible to take out the battery and run on pure ac socket, while alienware m14x has a built in battery, i was wondering u guys can give me some suggestions on how to handle the battery, like would it wear down the battery if i keep running it on ac socket rather than letting the battery finish first?

There's a feature in the bios, although i forgot the name of it, that lets you just take power out of the ac, and not charge the battery. I'm not sure how the m14x charging works. I would hope it uses straight AC power when the battery is charged.

BTW the battery is replaceable, easily. Just two screws to remove the battery and the cable that connects to the motherboard.

Hmmm I too would like to know this answer. I would definitely not want to wear down my battery as I leave it plugged in after it's charged.

I took the battery out altogether rather than relying on the BIOS setting alone.

All the heat from gaming gonna kill the battery since Li-ion batteries are heat sensitive.

Pretty easy to remove the battery, 2 screws to remove the back panel and 4 screws to remove the battery. Less than a minute's job

It totally disables charging of the battery rather than tickle charge which most laptops do when the battery is full.

If you have no BIOS your computer would not POST after boot

Just to update you guys. I've changed my charging behavior to be disabled under bios and I've left my charge at 20% and it's dropped 1% over the course of 10-12 days. I unplugged my laptop a couple times to rearrange my desk so it was left unplugged for like 20 seconds.

I've been running on AC for almost 2 weeks now and so far so good!

I'm not sure if leaving your Batt at 20% is a good thing.I was going to do the same but after reading some sites that indicate to leave the batt at 50% some say 80%, and finally some say leave it at full charge so truthfully I just leave it pulled in and once every 3-7 I'll use the battery until 50% then charge it up and so far the battery is in top shape.
Don't get me wrong 20% could be fine but I haven't come across a site that mentioned to keep them that low.
    ...just my 2 cents.
