help me decide...

i posted this in the m17x section but ive got 107 views and 0 replies for the reason im posting it again here. im considering selling my m14x and getting either an outlet or a m17x off ebay. has anybody odered an alienware off ebay and are happy with it. i see one right now that has i7 2630qm, gtx 436m, and 4gb ram for 1295.00. Would i be able to get enough out of my m14x through craigslist to pay for something like this straight across and is the gtx 460 a big difference in performance?

 

1) I havent ordered anything from ebay. I probably wouldnt since i can buy from the outlet. I've bought at least 20 laptops from the outlet and they are backed up by dell/alienware. I'm getting my m18x exchanged due to ongoing issues but my m17x r2 has been soild. I got one for my wife as well. I also have an m14x i just got yesterday. It looks brand new.

2) 555 vs 460? dunno. that's going to be subjective based on everything else i think. Processor etc...My R2's had 4870's CF and 5870's and crushed everything i threw at them at 1200p.

note that with the coupon i bought my m14x for 999.00 +tax. So it might be hard to get anything close to the price of the 17x you are looking at.

sorry I didn't reply on the other thread, but I was on my tablet and its hard to write a lenthy post with it. Graphics card wise the 460m beats the 555m, but idk by how much. just compare your 3dmark scores to mine and you should get a good picture. As to buying an m17x its up to you though I doubt your gonna find a good m17x r3 at the price your looking to buy at. If you really want an m17x, save up and buy a new one with a 580m or 6990m, or even wait for the 7690m/Ivy Bridge Refresh. you won't be disappointed.
